GM did not produce any units of the GMC Hummer EV pickup and GMC Hummer EV SUV during January 2023, GM Authority has learned. The move was necessary to upgrade the GM Factory Zero plant (previously known as the Detroit-Hamtramck plant) for production of the upcoming Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV.
Production of the GMC Hummer EV Pickup, which has been in production at the facility since October 2021, is expected to resume in the near future, once the factory upgrade is complete. GM is also expected to provide a solution to an October 2022 safety recall related to Hummer EV battery packs being subject to water intrusion as a result of improper sealing. Several rows of assembled Hummer EV Pickups presumably awaiting a fix following the recall were spotted in early February parked in a fenced lot in Flint, Michigan, roughly 60 miles north of Factory Zero.
Production of the GMC Hummer EV also amounted to zero units in December 2022, following the highest Hummer EV production levels of the 2022 calendar year in November, when 1,455 units of the Hummer EV Pickup rolled off the line.

GMC Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 in Moonshot Green Matte
Previously, the Start of Regular Production (SORP) of the GMC Hummer EV SUV was scheduled for January 30th, 2023 at the plant in preparation for customer deliveries toward the end of Q1 2023. Now it appears the first units of the GMC Hummer EV SUV will likely roll off the assembly line during February instead.
The range-topping GMC Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 will be first amongst Hummer SUV models to roll off the assembly line. This limited-edition launch trim is equipped as standard with 22-inch premium wheels, assist steps, and floor liners, while being finished in the limited-edition Moonshot Green Matte hue.
The GMC Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 is motivated by the range-topping, three-motor, 20-module powertrain capable of developing 830 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of torque. This powertrain can accelerate the imposing SUV from a standstill to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds with Watts To Freedom mode activated. Estimated range-per-charge exceeds 300 miles.
