Moonshot Green Almost Didn’t Become GMC Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 Color

The GMC Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 is certainly a striking thing to look at, thanks in no small part to its exclusive Moonshot Green Matte paint. Now, GM Authority has learned that Moonshot Green Matte almost didn’t become the exclusive hue for the GMC Hummer EV SUV Edition 1.

In a recent interview with GM Executive Editor Alex Luft, Global Vice President of Buick, GMC, and GMC Hummer EV at General Motors, Duncan Aldred discussed how GM eventually settled on Moonshot Green Matte paint for the GMC Hummer EV SUV Edition 1.

“Initially, when we talked about what to do for [GMC Hummer EV SUV] Edition 1, someone said matte green, and we said, ‘hmmm, not sure about that.’ And then the new Defender launched in a similar green. But when we finally saw this [Moonshot Green Matte] under proper lighting and in the flesh, it was a very easy decision.”

With a satin finish and complementary black and silver trim bits, Moonshot Green Matte gives the all-electric off-roader a splash of custom flair, making the exterior even more of a head-turner. Moonshot Green Matte is tagged with paint color code G7W, and is exclusive to the GMC Hummer EV SUV Edition 1. By contrast, all units of the GMC Hummer EV Pickup Edition 1 are finished in Interstellar White.

As a reminder, the GMC Hummer EV features GM Ultium battery tech and GM Ultium Drive motor tech, with the range-topping GMC Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 running a three-motor setup good for 830 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of wheel torque. Production of the GMC Hummer EV SUV kicked off at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan late last month, while production of the GMC Hummer EV Pickup initially got under way at the Factory Zero plant in October of 2021. Both models ride on the GM BT1 platform. As covered previously, the GMC Hummer EV is sold out for at least the next two years.
