How To Care For GMC Hummer EV SUV Moonshot Green Matte Paint

The GMC Hummer EV SUV went into production on January 29th, 2023, with the introductory Editon 1 units scheduled to be in customer hands by late Q1 2023.

In commemoration of the launch, the range-topping 2024 Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 trim wears exclusive Moonshot Green Matte paint (color code G7W). GM Authority was the first to reveal on-the-road photos of the Hummer SUV Edition 1 in its unique paint.

Moonshot Green Matte is one of GM’s matte and frost paints, used only for range-topping special editions produced in very limited quantities. The matte paint has a low-intensity satin sheen that brings out the Hummer EV SUV’s bodywork details with a velvety, luxurious glow. However, the paint also needs special care to keep it pristine and looking its best.

Info on how to care for GM matte paint comes from user manuals, the GM TechLink website, and the instructions in the delivery packet shipped to dealerships with every ordered vehicle draped in a matte or frost paint job.

These sources indicate the 2024 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1’s Moonshot Green Matte paint shouldn’t be cleaned in a standard automatic car wash. The roller brushes and scrubbers there can damage the matte paint’s satin surface. Instead, Edition 1 owners should opt for a touchless car wash.

Care should also be taken when manually cleaning a Moonshot Green Hummer EV. Owners should stick to ordinary car wash soap and water when cleansing the matte paint. If bug splatters or tar are present on the vehicle, only mild, non-abrasive bug removers or tar removers should be used.

When using a soft cleaning cloth on the exterior of the Hummer EV, wipe gently rather than rubbing vigorously. Rubbing vigorously can make unsightly shiny patches on the matte paint or otherwise create an uneven finish. Under no circumstances should any wax or polish be applied to the Moonshot Green Matte.

As a reminder, Moonshot Green Matte is included as standard on the range-topping GMC Hummer EV SUV Edition 1, and is not available on any other trim.

The Edition 1 is propelled by a three-motor, Ultium Drive powertrain developing 830 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of wheel torque, giving the Hummer EV SUV a zero-to-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds with the Watts To Freedom mode activated. Range-per-charge is estimated at over 300 miles, thanks to its 20-module Ultium battery pack.

Pricing for the GMC Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 started at $105,595, though the first unit off the production line recently sold for $500,000 at a charity auction raising funds for the Tread Lightly! environmental organization. Production is taking place at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan.

  4. Oh my, I’d hate to see someone get their Hummer dirty and not be able to keep it looking all pretty.

Just more proof that these things are nothing more than pavement crawlers that will do nothing more than show off on the way to/from work or the mall parking lot.

    1. Just like original Hummer. Look at me! Odds are somebody will drive one through a regular car wash and ruin the paint.

  5. Looks like one might be $$$ ahead just picking your FAVE color and applying a wrap of Moonshot Green over it. When you tire of the now non-existant satin routine, then you have a whole new color (haha) underneath!

  6. just wash it by hand, which the owners of these are not going to do anyway, Because that is seen as manual labor, something the rich do not do. I have matte paint on my motorcycle and use Chemical guys matte paint detailer, stuff works great.

  7. At $100,000.00 it should come with a Trunk Monkey and a lifetime supply of car care products.

  8. Was first in line for the SUV model but literally do NOT want that colour at all! Why would they only come in one colour for the launch? You’d think spending that type of money you would maybe get a choice on that.

  9. Don’t buy a Hummer EV. I own one and it makes a terribly loud “safety noise” that is over the top and completely irritating. I also have a Tesla. It doesn’t do this, so it’s not required.
