For the 2022 model year, Sierra HD changes and updates included a small amount of very minor revisions to equipment availability. Also, the former Sierra base trim level has been renamed the Sierra Pro.
The 2023 GMC Sierra HD received minor changes and updates over the previous year. Base price of the nameplate for 2023 increased by $1,000 across the board over the outgoing 2022 model. Also, the GMC Sierra HD is one of several GMC and Buick models that include the mandatory 3-year OnStar and Connected Services plan. For 2023, the OnStar and Connected Services have been moved over to the GMC Sierra HD standard feature list, but remains optional for the Sierra HD Pro trim level. In December, the Sierra HD received a destination freight charge (DFC) increase of $100, rising from $1,795 to $1,895.
Last fall, GM unveiled the refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD debuting fresh exterior styling, a new interior, a revised trim level lineup, powertrain updates, and more. The refresh is highlighted by the arrival of the premium 2024 GMC Sierra HD Denali Ultimate, the pinnacle of heavy-duty trucks. As such, the 2024 Sierra HD gets a new Denali Reserve Package, which replaces the Denali Ultimate Package offered on the 2023 model since it is now a fresh standalone trim level for 2024 that includes all of the Denali Reserve Package content as standard. The Sierra HD Denali Ultimate trim is characterized by Vader chrome exterior bits, 20-inch Ultra-bright wheels, and an Alpine Umber interior.
Joining the new range-topping trim level is the “seriously off-road capable” 2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4X, with recent spy shots revealing more details like DSSV shocks and 35-inch tires. The new GMC Sierra HD AT4X will be an even-more-capable off-road version of the current GMC Sierra HD AT4 and is set to launch later next year following the arrival of the first 2024 Sierra HD units in early 2023.
Under the hood, the 2024 GMC Sierra cradles the 6.6L L8T V8 gasoline engine as standard, while the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine is optional. The diesel engine also boasts an improved, SAE-certified output boost to 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque. For 2024, both the diesel engine and the gasoline engine now connect to the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission as standard, which replaces the GM six-speed equipped mated to gasoline-powered models previously.
The 2024 Sierra HD also gets new standard equipment across the lineup including IntelliBeam headlamps and Automatic Emergency Braking along with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, the Sierra HD gets enhanced trailering features such as Adaptive Cruise Control with Trailer, Enhanced Transparent Trailer, Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert, and GCW Alert. However, several trims will no longer offer 12-volt power outlets while still including 400-watt, 120-volt outlets.
Last month GM Authority exclusively uncovered in-depth 2024 GMC Sierra HD pricing information. Compared to the preceding 2023 model year, refreshed HD models are now between $1,100 and $3,500 more expensive depending on the trim level selected.
Production of the 2023 GMC Sierra HD started at the GM Flint plant in Michigan on July 18th, 2022. The online configurator tool is live for the 2023 Sierra HD.
Production of the refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD is currently scheduled for this month.
