GMC Hummer EV Pickup Production To Resume Soon

Production of the GMC Hummer EV Pickup was taken offline late last November, but now, GM Authority has learned that GMC Hummer EV Pickup production is about to resume.

Production of the GMC Hummer EV Pickup initially got underway in October of 2021 at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan (formerly Detroit-Hamtramck), with production gradually ramping up in the months that followed. More than 5,000 units of the GMC Hummer EV Pickup were produced last year.

Production of the GMC Hummer EV Pickup will resume soon.

However, as GM Authority initially covered back in October, GM idled production of the GMC Hummer EV Pickup in order to upgrade the Factory Zero facility for production of the Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV. Production of the Hummer EV Pickup was taken offline late in November of the 2022 calendar year following the highest monthly production figures thus far, with 1,455 units built during the month of November. No new units of the GMC Hummer EV Pickup were produced during the month of December 2022.

Now, production of the GMC Hummer EV Pickup is set to ramp back up. As a reminder, production of the GMC Hummer EV SUV also recently got under way at the GM Factory Zero plant. Both the Hummer EV Pickup and SUV, as well as the Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV, ride on the GM BT1 all-electric platform.

In addition, GM Authority has learned that GM will soon announce a solution for the GMC Hummer EV battery pack recall. As covered previously, GM issued a product safety recall for the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup last October due to improper sealing for the vehicle’s battery pack, which could potentially lead to water entering the pack. If water enters the battery pack, it could result in a loss of propulsion and warning in the Driver Information Center (DIC). At least three reports of water entering the Hummer EV battery pack have been confirmed.
