GMC Canyon Wins J.D. Power 2023 Canada ALG Residual Value Award

The 2023 GMC Canyon is one of three GMC vehicles to win the J.D. Power Canada ALG Residual Value Award for the 2023 model year. The award marks it as one of the vehicles most likely to offer high resale value according to the research firm’s analysis. The awards were announced on February 1st.

Resale value has become ever more important to consumers in today’s automotive market. The J.D. Power Canada ALG Residual Value Awards provide an industry-recognized prediction of which mass-market vehicles will retain the highest proportion of MSRP as resale value over four years (three years for premium vehicles), a metric used by the automotive leasing sector among others.

ALG, J.D. Power’s automotive residual value division, sifted through 272 model lines from the 2023 model year to find the top 15 brands in 29 segments, the firm’s press release says. The 2023 GMC Canyon survived a rigorous selection process – during which analysts evaluated “used-vehicle performance, brand outlook and product competitiveness” – to receive the Residual Value Award in the Midsize Pickup division.

The GMC Canyon was one of three GMC vehicles J.D. Power Canada named as a top model in the awards. It took its place alongside the 2023 GMC Yukon and the 2023 GMC Savana. The Canyon did not win a J.D. Power U.S. Residual Value Award for the 2023 model year.

GMC Canyon starting MSRPs in Canada (which includes CAD $2,095 destination freight charge or DFC) are as follows:

  • Elevation: $47,698
  • AT4: $52,398
  • Denali: $61,698
  • AT4X: $66,998

GM Authority also exclusively revealed pricing for the 2023 GMC Canyon in the U.S. during December 2022, with MSRP ranging from $38,095 for a 2WD Elevation trim to $64,845 for the 4WD AT4X Edition 1 trim.

The 2023 GMC Canyon launched the third generation of the Canyon pickup truck line. It features an overhaul that includes a reworked exterior and cabin, a new powertrain, new tech features, and even a new trim level, the off-road capable 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X trim. Some available features include underbody cameras and head-up display. The third-gen Canyon also has wireless Apple CarPlay / Android Auto compatibility and a standard Pro Safety Package.

In addition, the 2023 GMC Canyon introduces CoreTec seat upholstery material, a new type of synthetic leather. CoreTec, which GM filed a trademark for in September 2022, offers a pleasant texture while also being highly resistant to wear, easy to clean, and resistant to stains and spills. CoreTec can be added to the Elevation trim as part of the Elevation Premium Package (RPO code WPL) and comes standard on the AT4 trim. GM also continues to offer the optional Denali Black Edition package for the 2023 GMC Canyon.

As a reminder, the 2023 GMC Canyon is equipped as standard with the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine with only one available tune, the top 2.7L Turbo High Output tune. The L3B develops 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.

Production of the 2023 GMC Canyon Elevation, AT4 and Denali trims started on February 24th, 2023, while the range-topping Canyon AT4X will start rolling off the assembly line on April 10th. The truck’s third generation continues to be produced at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

    1. Yep. Just like all the magazine comparisons and stuff. It’s just an award given to who pays the most. From what I’ve seen of the truck on the web, it looks sweet and I bet it will look even better in person. But like the first dude said, ain’t none of em rolling down the street anywhere…

  3. I can’t believe how much better the dash looks in the Canyon compared to the Colorado.
Every time I see the Colorado dash on the passenger side I get so disappointed.

If GM has fixed that 8 speed, I can see the Canyon holding its value better than most vehicles.
The aggressive body lines are futuristic and bold.
I believe these will be a great seller.

  6. Yeah, I just bought a 2016 Canyon with 85,000km with the untimate wraparound warrante, that powersteering harness that was recalled on the 2015s went due to “corrosion” went in mine resulting in the power steering rack failing. The new rack “supposedly in LA and on its way on the 4th of Janurary shipped from Michigan on the 4th of feburary and still hasnt arrived. As well as my warrantee wont cover it. Luckily I bought the pickup from a Toyota dealership and they are stepping up and covering the cost of repairs. This will probably be my last gmc/chev purchased.
