All in, in regard to combined sales volume, Hyundai-Kia placed first, Ford second, Toyota third, Stellantis fourth, GM fifth, Honda sixth, and Nissan seventh. Single-entry automakers followed these seven.
The midsize and full-size mainstream crossover segment, comprised of crossovers with a starting price in the vicinity of $30,000, contracted five percent to 473,412 units during Q4 2022, meaning Acadia sales significantly outperformed the segment average.
The GM Authority Take
GMC Acadia sales made a solid showing, increasing this quarter despite being one of the oldest models in its segment. The model competes in the most crowded segment we cover, as evidenced by the number of automakers fielding multiple entries like GM, itself offering the Acadia along with the Chevy Traverse and Blazer.
The 2022 GMC Acadia received a bevy of changes, including the deletion of the base SL, making SLE the entry-level trim. As a result of the deletion of the SL trim, the 2.5L four-cylinder LCV engine has also been discontinued for the 2022 model year, as was the five-passenger seating option that was previously available on the Acadia AT4 trim. The 2023 GMC Acadia arrives with minimal changes over the previous year.
On a related note, the 2019 GMC Acadia was identified by Kelley Blue Book as one of the best certified pre-owned three-row crossovers available for less than $30,000. Furthermore, Consumer Reports has given the 2023 GMC Acadia a “recommended” rating.
More recently, Mazda unveiled the first-ever Mazda CX-90, introduced as the Japanese automaker’s new flagship three-row crossover. The new 2024 Mazda CX-90 will rival the GMC Acadia, Chevy Traverse, and – on the more premium end – the Buick Enclave.
A next-generation GMC Acadia is on the way for the 2024 model year. GM recently confirmed that the new Acadia will be bigger than the current model, corroborating an exclusive GM Authority report originally published in August 2020. The upcoming third-generation Acadia will debut as a full-size crossover, as compared to the midsize dimensions of the current, second-gen model. When the first-gen Acadia originally launched in 2007, it was offered as a full-size three-row model, with the second-gen model downsizing an entire size segment, both inside and out.
During a presentation given at last fall’s GM Investor Day event, GM President Mark Reuss addressed future product plans for the Acadia, stating, “Alongside the Traverse, we’ll move the GMC Acadia to a little bit different size standpoint. This comes in a little bigger than the old Acadia, so it’s a big transformation for GMC and its part of the market.”
Last July we spied the 2024 GMC Acadia prototype undergoing testing and initially testing the previous February, giving us a good look at its exterior proportions. We can already see that the upcoming model has a more upright stance reminiscent of the GMC Yukon full-size SUV. More recently, we captured the first spy photos of the upcoming 2024 GMC Acadia interior, revealing a new center stack and infotainment screen configuration. Additionally, the 2024 Acadia will include the option to equip it with the vaunted GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assist system.
Production of the 2023 GMC Acadia started at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee on June 10th, 2022. The online configurator tool is live for the 2023 model.
Production of the upcoming all-new 2024 GMC Acadia is scheduled to begin in January 2024.
Competing in such a competitive space means keeping models fresh and priced right, especially since other automakers are not standing still. For its part, GM is answering the call with a bigger, better and more modern GMC Acadia on the way.

This is fascinating, given the discussion going on the article about GMC customers not wanting to become a luxury brand. Clearly there are plenty of buyers for this segment! I wonder what their viewpoint is on the level of luxury. Either way, glad to see GM in the green!
This is upscale but I would not call it luxury.
This is many luxury or tech features but not the Luxury price.
GMC is the Pontiac/Buick of trucks.
My 2018 Acadia is great. I like that it is smaller than enclave/Travers. Don’t need a kid hauler anymore. Too bad they are upsizing it again. Occupied a sweet spot size wise for me.
same interior as the terrain, overpriced junk
On my fifth Acadia lease and I’ve loved every one. The 2021 SLT I’m leasing now is fantastic. I’m going to buy out the lease at the end. Is it luxury? No, but it’s really nice. The leather is fine. The heated seats are great. It has the dual sunroofs. It’s a nice size to zip around in. V6 is plenty powerful too. If I want to feel pampered I drive my wife’s 2019 Yukon SLT with the heated steering wheel and V8.
I am not surprised these are selling well. They look great, the drive nice, there’s room for the kids & stuff. Plus there were discounts on them so people saw the value in it and went for it. They’ll be happy.
GMV promised to fix my retrofit parking sensor for my 2022 GMC Denali in 4th qtr 2022. The 1st qtr 0f 2023 is almost over and no fix.
Did anyone get retrofit for parking sensors of their 2022 GMC acadia denali?
