GM has released a new service update for the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 related to rear brake line clearance issues.
The problem: certain units of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 may exhibit an issue wherein the rear brake lines contact the truck’s rear axle.
The hazards: contact between a vehicle’s brake lines and axle could result in damage to the brake line. To note, this is not explicitly stated in the new GM service update.
The fix: in order to address the brake line clearance issue, GM is instructing dealers and technicians to first inspect the GMC Sierra’s rear brake lines for clearance, as well as possible damage. If a brake line does not clear the axle, a new line may need to be installed. Both rear brake pipes, both on the left and right, may need to be replaced. The components required for this fix could include zip ties, two rear brake pipes, new bumper pieces, and finally, brake fluid.
Affected components: rear brake lines for the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500.
Affected vehicles: certain units of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited and fully refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500.
