GM Files To Trademark MultiStow For Possible GMC Canyon Tailgate Storage Compartment

GM has filed to trademark the MultiStow name, GM Authority has learned. The trademark may be used as branding for the tailgate-integrated storage compartment featured on the 2023 GMC Canyon.
The trademark was filed on February 16th, 2023 with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and is assigned serial number 97798376. The application carries a Goods and Services description of “Tailgates for motor land vehicles.”
Currently, there’s no confirmation that the MultiStow name will be used for any specific tailgate in GM’s vehicle lineup. The General filed to trademark StowPro in July 2022, but has confirmed since that the StowPro branding will not be used for the 2023 GMC Canyon integrated tailgate storage compartment.
This built-in storage consists of a compartment 45 inches wide and four inches deep, which can be accessed when the Canyon’s tailgate is lowered. It comes with a lockable lid, watertight construction, and a drain to make stowing beverages and ice more practical. The 2023 Chevy Colorado is equipped with a similar tailgate feature, branded as the StowFlex Tailgate (RPO code BPC). GM filed to trademark the StowFlex name in September 2022.
With StowPro trademarked, but eliminated from the running, MultiStow appears as a likely candidate for branding of the 2023 GMC Canyon tailgate.
The 2023 GMC Canyon launches the nameplate’s third generation with a series of revisions and refreshments. GM increased the truck’s width and height while giving the exterior a styling makeover. New LED lighting has been added while the front air dam present on earlier model years is deleted in 2023.
The cabin is overhauled with a standard 8-inch digital instrument cluster on the Elevation and AT4 trims, and 11-inch instrument cluster for the Denali and AT4X trims. Now optional on the 2023 GMC Canyon Elevation and 2023 GMC Canyon AT4 trims is a new CoreTec seat upholstery choice, consisting of easy-to-clean, highly spill-, stain-, and wear-resistant, pleasing-to-the-touch synthetic leather.
GM also added the new AT4X trim to the lineup. The 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X is enhanced with extra off-road features and technology making it even more capable on the trail than the AT4. When GM opened ordering for the limited-run introductory Canyon AT4X Edition 1 it sold out in 10 minutes.
Production of the 2023 GMC Canyon is currently under way for all trims except the AT4X, having begun on January 24th, 2023 at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri. Start of regular production (SORP) for the AT4X is scheduled to start on April 10th, 2023 per information obtained by GM Authority.

It’s my understanding that the 11 inch instrument cluster is also available on the AT4 also instead of the 8 inch panel. That’s what my order says on the one I ordered thru the dealer this week. Any truth to this?
I would love for this to be true. That’s the one feature that’s been missing that I would like to configure an AT4 with.
I just check the Build and Price for the AT4 and it still says it only comes with the 8 inch instrument cluster.
Can you share your order showing that?
Interesting,I checked the online build tool and still it shows only 8″ DIC for AT4.Also no new info about this from the online order guide either.
Has your dealer been able to place the order, because GM has to give them an open slot – an allocation. Just curious.

The dealer called me this morning and said he was double checking what I wanted as he was about to place the order. He also said he would send me a copy of the order when he entered it, haven’t received a confirmation from him yet.
I just want a tailgate that’s easy to open and shut. Strong yet lightweight. Find another spot for storing all the junk people might collect.
No one is forcing you to us it…
It is a great place to utilize wasted space. So many great things can be stored there, hitch, shackles, tow straps, tie downs, etc. I hope it makes it to the full size trucks. I don’t care for the gimmicky multipro tailgate that is electronically controlled, but a manual handle, power locking tailgate with storage I am all for.
I think that it is great for GM to come up with the multi tail gate and the multi truck box and the multi pro tail gate. I am the inventor of the multi functional truck box cover that provides me with more Height and Width to my existing truck box and cover’s it like a regular cover.I also own the patent application rights for it as well,I have submitted my invention to GM ideas.perhaps my product would be of interest to general motors for the new pickup trucks.
The storage in the tailgate is a good idea, if you have it on a show truck.not a good idea for a truck you work with everyday. Dodge has it built in the side of the box. The Best place to have it. GM likes to build multi things. Perhaps they would be interested in building my multi functional truck box cover.
