Chevy Equinox Running At 36 Days Supply In February 2023

Chevy Equinox inventory levels across the U.S. have improved in the beginning of February 2023, sources close to the matter tell GM Authority.

Approximately 18,000 Chevy Equinox units were already on the ground (at dealerships) as of early February, with an additional 9,000 examples of the compact crossover on their way to dealers across the U.S. This gives the Equinox a 36 days supply, meaning Equinox units sit on dealer lots for an average of 36 days.

Inventory levels of the Chevy Equinox have been significantly low for quite some time now. In September 2022, the compact crossover had a 15-day supply at the beginning of September 2022 with 12,000 units in transit. The following month, this figure dropped to a 13-day supply, with 10,000 units in transit. Most recently, there were 17,500 units of the Equinox on dealership lots, with an additional 11,000 units in transit.

The supply situation was negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing parts shortages, including but not limited to the well-publicized microchip shortage.

As a reminder, the Chevy Equinox is the Bow Tie brand’s second best-selling nameplate in the U.S., coming in behind the Chevy Silverado pickup truck lineup. In fact, during the 2022 calendar year, Equinox sales rose 28 percent to 212,072 units, which outpaced Chevy’s overall average growth rate of six percent for the year.

In regards to the current 2023 Equinox specifically, the compact crossover is available with a single powertrain combination. This includes the new turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine, rated at 175 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque, and the GM six-speed automatic transmission. Notably, the LSD engine was introduced for the 2023 model year, and replaced the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LYX gasoline engine, which was rated at 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque.

Under the skin, the 2023 Equinox rides on the GM D2 platform, while production takes place at the GM Ramos Arizpe plant and the GM San Luis Potosí plant, both located in Mexico. It’s worth noting that the fourth-generation Equinox is on the horizon, and is expected to arrive sometime during the 2024 calendar year.

  1. I have a 2009 Equinox with the 3.4 L V6 engine and it still runs as good as new. My next Equinox model will be the electric model for 2024.

    1. Enjoy running out of juice on the side of the road or having your battery fried by a supercharger.

  2. What is the ideal number of days supply ????

    1. Generally 60 days is considered normal.

  3. Would be interesting to see how many of the Equinox’s competitors have a better engine / transmission combination. I have a 2020 Equinox AWD with the 2.0L and the 9 spd trans. The combination is fantastic.
I just rented the current 1.5 6spd for 2 weeks. What a comparative slug. It’s a deal breaker for me.
I will consider the Blazer for a replacement, but not at todays prices. May have to go outside gm. Too bad. My current vehicle was a great price, lots of goodies and shocking performance for a grocery getter.
Why would you take your second best selling vehicle and make it worse?

    1. I also have a 2020 Equinox mid night with the 2.0l, 9 spd and AWD. Its a great car ! I very much enjoy the drive.
For a period I also had a 2021 GMC terrain, 1.5L, 9spd and AWD . The 1.5 in the Terrain performed well and in most everyday situations I did not mind the power level. Sure the 2.0l is much quicker but most of the time I did not use the extra power , so in the end I just burned more gas.
My son has a 1.5 AWD equinox , 2019 , and its almost 200,000k and still works great.
For most people who buy this car , the 1.5L is the better option.
It works well, is very reliable, has adequate performance and very competitive fuel economy. My wife has a Forester Sport, the 1.5 Equinox has more power and better fuel economy than the Forester , and the power train is much more refined. The Forester engine is close to tractor levels of refinement, especially when the when the start / stop engine feature is engaged. Overall the Equinox is a compelling vehicle for non-enthusiast drivers.

      1. Agreed. This is my second GMC Terrain (2018/2022) with the 1.5T. I am completely satisfied with the power of this engine; it performs extremely well around town and has more than enough pep on the freeway. No complaints whatsoever.
On the other hand, we have a 2021 Cadillac XT4 with the 2.0T, and while it is indeed more powerful, the engine is more noisy than the 1.5T. Plus, compared to the Terrain, the XT4 cabin is noisier around town and on the freeway.

  4. not making enough, most dealers here have very limited , if you look back the factories were shut down for much of the last 2 years, with the chips available to GM were being diverted to the production of full size SUVs and Pickup trucks.

  6. I have a 2011 Equinox LT and my wife has a 2015 Equinox LS, both run and drive flawlessly. Other than routine maintenance, they have had no issues whatsoever. Our next cars, should we ever need them, will definitely be another Equinox. They’re that reliable. Thank you Chevy.

  8. I’m on my 3rd Equinox. I had a 2011 LT and traded for the 2020 LT 2.0T with 9 speed and it was the best one for the price, style, options and engine, but it had 5,300 miles when I bought and I felt like someone ran it to hard, so I traded for a brand new 2023 RS with 20 miles off the lot and the engine sucks. I miss the 2020 2.0T everyday.
