The Nissan Rogue moved up to third with an 11 percent bump to 56,345 units, followed by the Hyundai Tucson in fourth with a 42 percent jump to 49,682 units. The Equinox slipped to fifth in spite of a 243 percent leap to 48,748 units. The GM Authority Take

Chevy Equinox sales continued to post healthy growth during Q4 2022, maintaining that trend from the prior quarter. Even so, the compact crossover slipped a couple spots to fifth place in the compact crossovers segment from a sales volume standpoint, while the Toyota RAV4 continues to be lead the segment.

The Equinox is the Bow Tie brand’s second best-selling model behind the Chevy Silverado and GM’s third best-selling model overall. Now, according to a new report, the Chevy Equinox was the most leased vehicle in the U.S. in Q3 2022.

The Chevy Equinox received a mid-cycle refresh for the 2022 model year, representing the fifth model year of the current, third-generation model. A long list of changes and updates for the 2022 Chevy Equinox includes a revised front fascia, small changes to the rear end, as well as the addition of the sporty RS trim level. Additionally, the 2022 Equinox became slightly more affordable than the preceding model year.

The 2023 Chevy Equinox ushers in a few noteworthy updates and changes as well, the biggest of which is a new engine, with the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine replacing the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LYX. Also, the 2023 Equinox receives a new e-boost braking system. As GM Authority was first to report, pricing for the 2023 Equinox increases $300 across the board over the 2022 model year.

In December the 2023 Chevy Equinox received a “recommended” rating by Consumer Reports. However, IIHS gives the Chevy Equinox a “poor” rating in its updated moderate overlap front test for model years 2021 through 2023.

Production of the 2023 Chevy Equinox began at the GM San Luis Potosí plant and GM Ramos Arizpe plant, both located in Mexico, on August 22nd, 2022, and the online configurator tool is now live for the 2023 Equinox.

Regarding the future of the popular compact crossover, GM President Mark Reuss confirmed that the next-generation Chevy Equinox will arrive in 2024, during a presentation given at last fall’s GM Investors Day event.

“This is the big redo of our popular ICE Equinox that we have today, in the biggest segment of the world,” Reuss said. “This is right in the heart of the market and, again, this is a major redo for us here, so we’re very excited.” Reuss also stated the next-gen Equinox would be “high-volume” and “much more profitable than the old one,” also adding that the next-gen would be a “second lap” for the underlying D2 architecture.

2025 Chevy Equinox prototype

Our spies first spotted the 2025 Chevy Equinox prototype testing in November, and again last month. Also, GM authority has learned that next-gen Equinox could get the Activ trim level like that offered on the current generation Chevy Trailblazer and upcoming 2024 Chevy Trax.

Meanwhile, the 2024 Chevy Equinox is expected to largely be a carryover from the 2023 model year, with production set to start in May 2023 and end in October 2024 to make room for the upcoming, next-gen model.

2024 Chevy Equinox EV 3RS

While the current, internal-combustion-engined Equinox will continue being offered well into the future, including the next-gen model, GM CEO Mary Barra debuted the first-ever 2024 Chevy Equinox EV on CBS Mornings after the automaker initially teased the all-electric compact crossover a year ago. The 2024 Chevy Equinox EV will feature as standard a single Ultium Drive electric motor powering the front wheels, rated at 210 horsepower and 242 pound-feet of torque. An optional ‘eAWD’ system will also be offered, rated at 290 horsepower and 346 pound-feet of torque.

While wait on the Equinox EV and competitors’ all-electric offerings to hit the market, it’ll be interesting to see how GM’s next-gen ICE version will impact sales.

  3. Amazing how sales go up when the dealer body is supplied with inventory! Coincidence, I think not.

  4. The four imports with higher sales are cheaply made and disposible, so it is obvious that they last less and sell more. My 2009 Equinox is as great as when it was new! And it has the most internal space of all the vehicles in that list. Last month I carried four 400 W solar panels and two 11 foot rails, all inside!

  5. A lot of people think of Nox as boring/inferior even though it’s not true. Convinced having Terrain to compare it to makes people feel as if they bought the cheap offering.
I think it’s boring and figure the next gen will look like EV design which is also boring

  6. 243% increase in visits to chiropractors. Those too narrow seats must cause so many issues. I refuse to believe big Americans find these 3/4 size seats comfortable. Rental vehicle at best which is a shame as it does what it needs to do pretty well.
