Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)
Cadillac XT5 sales during the fourth quarter of 2022 placed the compact luxury crossover mid-pack when ranked by sales volume. However, compared to the prior quarter, there was a shakeup at the top this time around, with the Audi Q5 jumping up to first place with 91 percent increase in sales to 19,780 units, thereby bumping the Lexus RX, which had remained in the leading sales position for the past year, to second place. The RX saw a 49 percent drop to 15,742 units, likely due to the generational changeover to the all-new, 2023 RX. The BMW X3 remained in third with a 33 percent drop to 14,695 units, while the Acura MDX moved up a spot to fourth with an eight percent bump to 13,211 units. The Volvo XC60 moved up with it to fifth with a four percent increase to 10,428 units, while the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class (comprised of the GLC-Class and GLC-Class Coupe) fell from second to sixth with a 27 percent drop to 10,016 units. The XT5 remained in seventh place with a 139 percent jump to 8,446 units. The rest of the field each recorded less than 6K deliveries each.

From a segment share standpoint, the XT5 held an eight percent share, up five percentage points. The Q5 posted an 18 percent segment share, up 10 percentage points year-over-year, while the RX held a 14 percent share, down a segment-worst 11 percentage points. The X3 posted a 13 percent share, down five percentage points, and the MDX held a 12 percent share, up two percentage points. The XC60 held a nine percent share, up one percentage point, followed by the GLC-Class with a nine percent share, down two percentage points. The rest of the field each held a segment share of five percent or less.
We should note that Lexus RX sales have included the two-row RX and the three-row RX L, with the two-row model competing against the Cadillac XT5 and the three-row RXL being a rival to the Cadillac XT6. As such, a more apt comparison would be to pit XT5 and XT6 sales against those of the RX.
Doing so gives Cadillac a combined 14,107 deliveries but still less than the 15,742Â units moved by the Lexus RX family.

The GM Authority Take
Cadillac XT5 sales remain in an upswing as GM has worked on addressing production issues in order to get supply back on track to meet demand.
Production of the 2023 Cadillac XT5 began on June 10th, 2022, at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee, alongside its larger sibling, the Cadillac XT6, as well as the GMC Acadia, and Cadillac Lyriq. However, a year after Consumer Reports recognized the 2022 Cadillac XT5 as being among the most reliable vehicles on sale today, production, supply chain, and quality control issues continue to plague the marque’s bread-and-butter crossover.
Last June, the park assist feature for the 2023 XT5 was under constraint. Then, in July, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched an investigation into GM over alleged issues with the rearview camera in certain XT5, XT6, and Acadia models. In August, GM started a Customer Satisfaction Program for certain 2022 Cadillac XT5 and 2022 Cadillac XT4 models to address an issue related to a missing accessory grille, reimbursing buyers accordingly. Later that month, GM provided a solution to a front end rattle or clunking sound that affects some 2020 to 2023 model-year Cadillac XT5 units. Finally, in September, GM issued a recall for certain examples of the 2023-model-year XT5 and XT6 crossovers due to an issue related to noncompliant tire certification labels.
Nevertheless, for the second consecutive quarter, Cadillac has been ranked as the third-most considered luxury brand, edged out by Lexus and BMW in second and first, respectively. This suggests that the XT5 is in higher demand than there has been supply as a result of various production and constraint issues that trace their roots back to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2023 Cadillac XT5 gets a small amount of model year changes, including paint color changes, while the Cadillac User Experience infotainment with embedded navigation and the Bose Performance 14-speaker sound system becomes standard on Premium Luxury and Sport trim levels.
The Cadillac XT5 luxury crossover was introduced for the 2017 model year, with a model refresh following for the 2020 model year. The XT5 will soldier on largely unchanged for 2024, while a next-generation Cadillac XT5 is destined exclusively for China.
During the GM Investor Day event last fall, GM President Mark Reuss said, “This is for China only, as we move Cadillac in the United States to an all-electric brand. The XT5 is still a very high-volume segment in China, and we’re going to do that with a new design language interpretation, both inside and out.”
Reuss also confirmed future all-electric Escalade IQ and Escalade IQL full-size Cadillac SUVs as well as the upcoming debut of a new, small all-electric Cadillac crossover for the 2024 calendar year. The new all-electric crossover will be smaller than the all-electric Cadillac Lyriq in terms of exterior dimensions, and is expected to carry one of several recently trademarked names – Optiq, Symboliq, Lumistiq, Acsendiq, or Vistiq. As for the Lyriq, it may end up serving as the EV replacement for the XT5, a two-row luxury compact crossover in Cadillac’s lineup.
In fact, Cadillac plans to unveil three new electric vehicle models in 2023, global Cadillac vice-president Rory Harvey revealed in statements made during a recent media briefing.

Production of the 2023 Cadillac XT5 began at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee on June 10th, 2022. The online configurator tool is live for the 2023 XT5. Production of the 2024 Cadillac XT5 is currently scheduled for June. It will likely be the final model year of the XT5 in markets outside China.

Don’t waste your time on a XT5. Overpriced and horrible resale. 2022 shows lost $25000 in first year of ownership. Lexus RX lost $6000.
BS depreciation figures. Have had my XT5 for 4 years and it hasn’t dropped near that much per KBB. Traded my RX in for an XT5 in 2019. RX drove like a kitchen appliance, XT5 is a performance machine – so much more fun on the road and better gas mileage to boot. Both reliable cars, but get out of the school drop off line and drive excitement!!!
GM -Cadillac is making a BIG mistake by giving this model a dash and some body changes and shipping them to China. They should also have them available for the devoted Cadillac people in this country. They are also making a VERY BIG mistake by getting rid of this model in 2 yrs to make way for more Lyriq’s . If they really wanted to improve their bottom line ,they should PROMOTE both vehicles.
Frank:
You might want to check your facts before embarrassing yourself like that.
Cadillac does not ship any XT5s to China from the US. They are built there for the Asian market.
Regardless,GM is catering to the Chinese car market instead of us.
Frank:
OK. I’ll bite. Why is Cadillac “cateting” to tje Chinese market at the ezpense of the US?
Ask those management geniuses, they think it’s best for the brand.
No. You made the statement. You tell me.
Last fall GM decided that the XT5 has two years left . They want to push the Lyriq. At the same time the bulletin stated China will get the revised version of the XT5. This move will bring GM- Cadillac to their knees,in my opinion.
It’s interesting that the XT5 remains as popular as it is. I believe it’s the oldest product in its segment having been introduced for 2017, and receiving only minor revisions since.
The XT5 is not popular by any stretch of the imagination. Any increase in sales of any XT model makes it look like Cadillac hit gold since their only purpose is to outsell Lincoln.
They still make Lincolns?
Hey Mary your woke and communist program will get you .. when our 2 Xt5 leases are up ,if there is not a ice XT5 replacement I am not interested in any EV ,we will be saying Goodby to Cadillac .. With your strong involvement to china ( small c ,they are communist ) I think you should move your office to china and AMERICA alone ,.. can I get a second
A lot are going to follow you, including me. In fact I think more will be leaving versus buying their EV’s.
I am driving a Cadillac SRX at the moment, and I absolutely love the style and ride of my vehicle. However, I am about to trade in my 2015 for the 2023 XT5 (my XT5 has been ordered and should be coming in within a week or two. Please tell me I have not made a mistake on this XT5.
I know the new one will be China only but it will be here for two more years. Why not give it the same refresh as the XT4 and call it a day?
