The Cadillac CT5 has received a J.D. Power 2023 Canada ALG Residual Value Award, often used by the car leasing industry to identify premium vehicles which are predicted to hold the biggest percentage of original MSRP after three years, or four years for mass market vehicles. ALG is Global research firm J.D. Power’s official automotive residual value division.
Award-winning vehicles are chosen using multiple factors, including how competitive the vehicle is, how it performs as a used vehicle, and whether the brand is moving in a positive direction, J.D. Power writes. ALG uses weighting to ensure different trim levels are properly represented in a model’s final score.
ALG published the results from its 2023 Canada Residual Value Awards on February 1st, 2023. In all, 15 vehicles out of the 272 models the research firm evaluated from the 2023 model year received category awards. Seven of these were GM vehicles. including the Cadillac CT5 which topped the Premium Midsize segment.
While the CT5 won a Residual Value Award in Canada, it did not win the equivalent U.S. award for the 2023 model year. Starting MSRPs for the Cadillac CT5 in Canada, including a CAD $2,300 destination freight charge, are as follows:
- Luxury: $46,098

Car and Driver highlighted its power, performance, and “delightful steering feel,” while also describing the Blackwing as the “greatest sport sedan on sale today, if not all time.”
Consumer Reports was much less positive about the 2023 Cadillac CT5, giving it a 2 out of 5 rating for both predicted reliability and owner satisfaction. CR advised buyers to avoid the CT5, alleging unreliable powertrain performance as well as an unrefined GM 10-speed automatic transmission in its lower-trim test vehicle.
GM is planning to roll out a mid-cycle refresh for the 2024 Cadillac CT5, which will include updates to both the vehicle’s interior and exterior, though the “cheap-looking” black plastic triangle on the C-pillar that irritates many Cadillac buyers and reviewers remains. GM Authority obtained spy shots of the refreshed CT5 undergoing testing in late October 2022. The sedan will continue to ride on the Alpha 2 platform.
2024 Cadillac CT5 start of regular production (SORP) is scheduled for July 2023, GM Authority has learned, while assembly will take place at the GM Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan for all markets except for China, where the CT5 is made at the SAIC-GM Cadillac Jinqiao plant in Shanghai.
