As previously covered by GM Authority, Buick has just unveiled the refreshed 2024 Buick Encore GX for the North American market. Now, 2024 Encore GX models bound for the Canadian market will feature subtle yet distinctive differences as compared to U.S. models.
Canadian models will be available in the same three trim levels – Preferred, ST and Avenir – as the U.S. models. However, while all trims will be equipped as standard with front-wheel drive in the U.S., with optional all-wheel drive, Canadian ST and Avenir variants will be configured with AWD as standard. Notably, the starting Preferred trim level will be available with both FWD and AWD setups.
The differences don’t stop there. U.S.-market Encore GX units will be equipped as standard with the 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine, rated at 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. Concurrently, Canadian models will only be fitted with the 1.3L I3 L3T gasoline engine, rated at 155 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque. Additionally, Canadian Encore GX models configured in the Preferred FWD outfit will utilize a continuously variable automatic transmission, while Preferred AWD, ST and Avenir feature the GM nine-speed automatic transmission.
It’s worth noting that pricing for Canadian models has yet to be announced.
The mid-cycle refresh for the 2024 Buick Encore GX brings a bevy of updates and changes to the exterior, interior, trim lineup, and technologies. Starting with the outside, the revised subcompact crossover draws styling cues from the Buick Wildcat EV, and features similarities to the latest Buick Enclave and Buick Envision. Notably, this model is also the first in Buick’s North American lineup to adopt the updated Tri-Shield logo design. Winged LED headlamps are standard across the range, while LED tail lamps are equipped higher in the range. New 18-inch and 19-inch wheel options are also available.
One of the biggest announcements for the refreshed 2024 Encore GX is the addition of the Avenir trim level, which GM Authority exclusively covered last year. This new-for-Encore GX trim features exclusive design cues, features, and premium materials, including a unique Avenir grille, unique clear LED taillights, unique 19-inch wheels, chrome body accents, and black carbon metallic body side molding. Leather seating can be found inside, presenting an exclusive Whisper Beige and Jet Black colorway, while an 8-way power driver seat, heated steering wheel, and air ionizer further the trim level’s air of exclusivity.
Technology updates include Buick’s Virtual Cockpit System, with a total of 19-inches of screen surface thanks to an 11-inch infotainment screen and an 8-inch configurable driver instrument cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard affair, while wireless phone charging is optional.
The Buick Driver Confidence package is standard, and includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and IntelliBeam auto high-beams, among other safety features. Further safety tech is optional via various packages, such as Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, and Adaptive Cruise Control.
Production of the refreshed 2024 Buick Encore is currently scheduled to kick off next month. Pricing starts at $26,895 (including DFC) for U.S. models.
