GM has issued a product recall for certain units of the 2023 Cadillac XT5 due to a problem with the right-front half-shaft assemblies.
The problem: defective right-front (or passenger’s side) half-shaft assemblies have the potential to decouple from the transmission under certain load conditions.
The hazards: if the half-shaft were to be separated from the transmission, affected vehicles have an increased risk of a serious crash due to an unexpected loss of propulsion / mechanical braking.
The fix: certified GM technicians will be instructed to inspect passenger-side half-shaft and replace if necessary, free of charge. It’s worth noting that dealers have been instructed to wait to order the necessary components due to the limited number of vehicles affected.
Affected components: front passenger-side half-shafts.
Affected vehicles:
- 2023 GMC Acadia
- 2023 Cadillac XT5
Number of affected vehicles: GM believes there are only 10 affected vehicles with this issue, although the GMC Acadia is also included in the recall.
Owners should: GM will notify owners of affected vehicles and instruct them to make an appointment with their dealer. I’m pretty sure Ford is beating GM with number of recalls.
No mention is made of the actual defect causing the problem.
