The 2023 calendar year is set to be a relatively busy year for Buick, with a few notable events for the North American market. Buick is also set to release new vehicles for the Chinese market as well, with the potential to bring these models to American shores. With that in mind, here’s the lowdown on what to expect from Buick in North America, and what will be chronologically introduced in the 2023 calendar year.
Early 2023
First up is the 2023 Buick Electra E5. Pre-production began in December 2022 at the SAIC-GM Wuhan Ultium plant in China, otherwise known as the Wuhan Ultium Center. As Buick’s first all-electric vehicle based on the GM BEV3 platform with Ultium battery and Ultium Drive motor tech, the Electra E5 will remain exclusive to the Chinese market for now, but we’re mentioning it here because GM is planning to introduce the electric crossover in North America sometime in 2024.
Spring 2023
The 2024 Buick Envista is set to make its North American debut sometime in the first half of the 2023 calendar year, likely in the spring. This all-new entry-level crossover will bring the Tri-Shield brand’s lineup back up to four models, as the Buick Encore was retired at the end of the 2022 model year.
Summer 2023
The 2024 Buick Encore GX introduces a mid-cycle refresh for the B-segment crossover, featuring a revised front fascia similar to that of the Buick Envista, a revised interior, and a range-topping Avenir trim level. Production is set to commence in March 2023 at the GM Bupyeong plant in South Korea for North American models, while Chinese-market vehicles will be built at the SAIC-GM Dongyue South plant in China. 2024 models should reach dealership lots by Summer 2023.
Fall 2023
Just like its Encore GX brethren, the 2024 Buick Envision is set to introduce a mid-cycle refresh for the C-segment crossover. As of the time of this writing, it’s unclear exactly when the 2024 Envision will debut, but we expect it to launch after the all-new Envista and refreshed Encore GX.
In a similar case to its Electra E5 cousin, the Buick Electra E4 will debut exclusively for the Chinese market, and will remain that way for the foreseeable future. An exact release date has yet to be confirmed by GM, but Buick’s second Ultium-based crossover will officially launch after the Electra E5.
2024 Calendar Year
It’s worth noting that the 2024 calendar year brings more exciting news for the Tri-Shield brand, including the next-gen 2025 Buick Enclave, as well as the 2025 Buick Electra E5. As previously mentioned, the Electra E5 will serve as Buick’s first EV available in the North American market.

Well that’s nothing worth paying attention to.
No kidding! That’s nothing and about as exciting as watching paint dry. White paint at that.
I’m just afraid that these few products will never be enough to bring Buick back from it’s death bed. Dead man walking IMO.
So sad to see a once great American car maker invest billions in Chinese plants and workers for their US products.
gm is trying to get hundreds of Buick dealers to drop the brand. With these products that will not be nearly enough. If I were a Buick dealer I would take the money and run.
The Buick name needs to be dropped as it is associated with an old stodgy persons image.
Suggest La Salle as a replacement name with a younger image.
GM isn’t trying to force Buick dealers out 9f business. Instead, they are demanding EV upgrades (just like at GMC). There are very few stand alone Buick dealers anymore so this is a nothing burger.
La Salle is a horrible name, man, and not youthful! Buick is already coming up with alias naming: Buick Electra E5 Avenir is a mouthful! Buick will probably disappear for the US in favor of Electra hence the need for the E5 suffix. Otherwise it would be Electra 5.
Buick will hang around for VIN and, therefore, not harm Chinese sales.
Buick will be ahead of all Japanese in EV’s.
So true, just put the division with Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Saturn & Saab.
“What to Expect from Buick in 2023”
More imports.
Buick is gm’s GEO division of the 2000s
Dear GM: No one will ever understand why you killed Pontiac instead of Buick. With these “fresh models”, I’ll even ask why Oldsmobile and even Saab or Saturn wasn’t saved. Keep those China market Buicks overseas. We don’t want this garbage. Four crossovers that no one wants. All they are doing is stepping on GMCs toes that share the same showrooms. Especially now that GMC has Denali trims.
Chef CJ Nobles, I agree 100% with your comments except that Buick is still building the Buick Verano for the China market while this car was very appreciated in Canada but not in the US. That is why, GM killed it for the North American market. Verano was one the best car I bought since I retired from GM in 2001 after 36 years of service.
Duh. They kept Buick because it was the top seller in China and they sold more cars their than stateside. So gm made more money. Get it?
Mary start reading these comments ,No one wants this China stuff or EVs
I do! My Envision is the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. Extremely well built, far better than any of the many American made cars and a few Japanese or Euro cars I’ve owned. Far better. I love the products in the pipeline and am excited to see their introduction to the market. As you naysayers aren’t paying attention, may I respectfully remind you… Buick is rated as the #1 Overall Brand for Initial Vehicle Quality. Number One, the best. (Microphone drop).
Our 2016 Envision was one of the most quietest SUVs and bank vault sounding door closings.
Our 2018 CT6 2.0E plug-in at 43k miles has been solid too!
Great to see GM pulled a 3rd stringer from the Hyundai bench to start designing their new models! 2022 is the last model year to get an Encore or Encore GX and still look like a Buick.
The continued ignorance of GMA commenters is stupefying.
Right?!
These all HAVE to be bots…. Or really friggin’ old Boomers, I guess?
(FWIW, I’m a longtime GM fan and current Buick owning Millennial)
Mostly out of touch Boomers who can’t handle electrification. The demos on this site must skew older.
I’m a millennial and get annoyed with touch screens (automotive equivalent of “get off my lawn” so can empathize with the hysteria.
The E-Ray Corvette should demonstrate to them the benefits of electric but no such luck.
Well, Generous Motors we do not want to be Made in China crap with them being our enemy!!!

Arthur: You said this exact thing twice now. I really don’t feel that it’s the Buick name that is the problem. It’s the lack of product. It’s the lack of any sedans. It’s the lack of identity. It’s the fact that Buick is truly associated with real American, so the Chinese thing is killing it here. But, this would be the same if it was Pontiac or Olds. You can’t starve a brand of product and it’s American heritage and then expect it to sell in America.
What exactly is “American heritage”? Accord, Camry are the best selling sedans with Kia K5 not far behind.
Imports do great in America when Japanese, Korean, German so this has nothing to do with heritage. In fact, American design is dead aside from trucks and muscle cars in favor of a German inspired “World Car” styling being sold by everyone including Chinese automakers.
Buick borrows design cues from Volvo which, while owned by Geely, is European. Next you’ll be saying Jeep, Ram and Dodge look French because of Stellantis. Geography means nothing when it comes to automotive design
“…the average customer age for the brand(Buick) has dropped to 57, a seven-year decline from five years ago, and the brand’s overall conquest average, also known as new customers to GM, has increased 43 percent over the last five years.” Mlive
50% of 2 is 1.
gm needs to start building cars enough with trucks and crossover
I really don’t think it’s going be good year for Buick . To many of same things and higher price people do not want to pay with skyrocketing interest rates .
As a current Buick owner, and previous owner of two more Buicks, none of this excites or interests me even a little. If Buick went away, I don’t think I would even miss them at this point.
I miss it now, and have for over 10 years.
Buick Electra E4. GM at its finest, As shockingly beautiful as many Harley Earle designs. I’ve seen so many gorgeous e-car designs; bladder interrupts moments. The closest shockingly sexy car introduction was the Buick Riviera. I was only 16, but I believe my expression was “far out, man!” Actually, it’s what I thought, because I was speechless. That’s what the E4 does to me. My bucket list of the early1960’s included two top “wants”; a car to die for, and the woman of my dreams. I don’t have the car.
Having owned 3 Buicks over the years, I will NEVER understand why Buick doesn’t have at least ONE nice sedan…They did sell, it isn’t like they didn’t…A nice refreshed LeSabre would sell…Buick need to get back to it’s roots…I Personally don’t want a Chinese SUV….Give me a nice riding, handling auto…It can be done…
Buick is trying to scare off the Boomers by dropping sedans. Older customers harm brand image. GM forgets that many younger people fuel models like Civic and it’s Acura clone. I suppose, however, that it’s too late to build up that sort of brand equity.
Buick will survive as a captive importer or end and get it’s space filled with new Hummers from GMC
Haven’t seen anything worth a crap from Buick since 2011. Amazing how GM has devastated a once great car brand. It’s just about criminal.
Regal and Tour X (Opel) were fantastic as were the show cars but otherwise Buick is a Zombie in the US
My Acadia lease expires in April. I am very interested in the Envision Avenir AWD. There isn’t one within 100 miles of the Cleveland area where I live. Looks like I could be headed to Mazda.
You won’t find many sitting on the lot like the old days. You have to go to the dealership and see what is coming down the assembly line that is close to what you want and snag it as it comes off the delivery truck.
Also on recent leases they allowed you pay an extra 6-months after lease end on your current lease.
Maybe the corporation should pull the plug and end the misery. Stick with what you really know and stop being political with this crap. There isn’t enough electric power to go around now, and with these cars being plugged in at night, we can expect more blackouts. The power companies haven’t enough money to build more generators or power grids, and I can see that our summers will be without air conditioning, winters without heat and we will become like North Korea with lights out at sun down. The government is already bankrupt, so don’t expect anything from them.
Sorry but the new grille is awful. Bring back the waterfall
The Wildcat concept absolutely has to be built. Cmon GM, potential buyers are begging you to build it. Wake up and build this. It’s a no brainer
I now have my third Buick Wildcat, as I remove the Lucerne emblem and install three metal Wildcat emblems in the 1965 style. First was a 2007 CXS, then a 2008 Super and now a 2011 CXL.
They have finished wrecking this brand
Congrats Buick, you broke my aunt’s heart because she used to lease your vehicles.
