Techno Blue has been announced by Axalta, a U.S.-based paint supplier company, as the 2023 Global Automotive Color of the Year.
The announcement marks Axalta’s ninth Global Automotive Color of the Year. Last year, the paint supplier announced the cherry-colored Royal Magenta as the Global Automotive Color of the Year for 2022.
Axalta describes Techno Blue as a pulsating color that reflects the energy found throughout the world today. The modern, whimsical shade also embodies the transition from the real to virtual world.
“This year’s color is vibrant and radiates positivity,” said Hadi Awada, Senior Vice President of Global Mobility at Axalta. “Techno Blue is a bold contrast to the luxurious Royal Magenta, Axalta’s 2022 Color of the Year, shifting people’s mindsets towards futuristic thinking. I’m proud that our Mobility team continues to drive trends throughout the automotive industry.”
Last year’s color, Royal Magenta, was designed with future automotive technologies in mind. Thus, Techno Blue, with its focus on the transition from the real to virtual world, falls in line.
Previously, blue was fourth in popularity in North America for 2022, falling behind white, gray and black. In fact, 11 percent of new cars sold in America in 2022 were painted a shade of blue, while 30, 20 and 19 percent were respectively painted white, gray or black. In fact, blue consistently ranks as a top-four color across the globe.
It’s worth noting that although GM does offer some lighter shades of blue, such as Rapid Blue for the Chevy C8 Corvette and Chevy Camaro, the Detroit-based automaker currently doesn’t have any vehicles available with a paint color that matches Axalta’s Techno Blue.

I sure would like to see Candy Appy Blue like custom cars had on it the late 50’s and early 60’s. It kind of goes with the Candy Green from that time.
I really like my Elkhart Blue Stingray over the lighter shade of blue.
I really like my laser blue 2016 colorado. I am not a huge fan of the new silverado/colorado blues. The blue on the silverado ev looks appealing.
