Production of the 2023 Chevy Bolt EV and 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV, GM’s entry-level electric vehicles, is currently scheduled to end late in the calendar year, GM Authority has learned.
According to sources close to the matter, production of the 2023 Bolt EV and 2023 Bolt EUV will cease on November 7th, 2023 at the GM Lake Orion plant in Michigan. For reference, production of the 2023 models began back in July 2022, meaning that 2023 model-year manufacturing will last a total of 16 months. As a result, GM expects to build quite a few Bolt EV and Bolt EUV units, as many as 70,000 units.
2023 Chevy Bolt EV
It’s worth noting that production of the Chevy Bolt EV and Chevy Bolt EUV ground to a halt late in 2021 due to a massive recall involving the EVs’ battery packs. As previously covered by GM Authority, the battery packs were built with a manufacturing defect that had the potential for a torn anode tab and folded separator, which risked causing a fire.
Back in February 2022, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration closed its investigation into the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV battery pack fires. The investigation originally opened in October 2020 following reports of fires breaking out while customers charged the all-electric Bolts. GM paused production following this investigation.
2023 Chevy Bolt EUV
As a reminder, the 2023 Chevy Bolt EV and 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV are both equipped with a 65 kWh battery pack, which supplies energy to the front-mounted electric motor. Total output is rated at 200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, while both models utilize the GM BEV2 platform for structure.

I would love to fuel my EVs directly but darn it all, plugging the charging cord into the soil doesn’t do anything for some reason .
Only 60% of electric comes from fossil fuels, other 40% comes from nuclear, hydro, wind & solar.
Infact the 40% that comes from natgas is much cleaner than oil.

Hydro is pretty efficient… Usually about 60 % at the plant.
It’s 0 percent efficient to let the water run downhill without collecting the energy.
I’ve got two Bolts on order but will have to wait a while. There is more demand for the Bolt than any other vehicle which will likely surge now. Once you drive one, you will know why.
Ordered a 2023 Bolt 1LT Aug 2022 and GM has not even re-started production as yet. I will feel good when I receive a VIN#.

Kretch. Yes I read article. Thank you for asking. I have been in communication with GM Executive lines past few months. They claim re-start on 2023 Bolt production in Orion, MI plant has not started as yet. I speculate that is due to battery recall replacements on 2017-2022 has priority.

The Equinox and Blazer EV are both coming with AWD option. I will say that my 22 Bolt does really well in snow, even with FWD only. Must have something to do with how the weight is distributed with the battery pack? I’ve owned probably 50 cars in my lifetime. The Bolt EV is a great bang for the buck, quiet with great tech and is just fun to drive.
My 2022 Bolt EV 1LT has performed as well as my previous vehicle (VW Golf on Nokian Hakkapeliitta-9s) during winter in Anchorage with the proviso that it’s also on Nokian Hakkapeliitta (-10s) studded tires. However, those first few days of icy roads last autumn before I could get the factory-supplied tires replaced with the winter tires were very hazardous with just a patina of frost or ice on pavement; more so than with the VW, it seems. I’m in my 14th ice-season of daily driving in Anchorage.

I mounted 4 16″ sonic wheels with snow tires I had the wheels and tires left over from my 2015, and 2016 Trax and encore.
I wait until snow is predicted to install them on the car, then take them off after the roads are cleared.
If you really believe the Equinox EV will be widely available in 2023, I guess this makes some kind of sense. The problem is the Equinox will be delayed and cost more. In that case it makes no sense to discontinue the Bolt. And is this new news or old recycled news, like GMA likes to fo?

Worst story. Okay it will end production in November 2023, but the story has no conclusion? Is that the end of the bolt or are to read in that this is where production of the 2024 Bolt starts. Terrible story.
The factory in orion that builds the bolt EV and EUV is being retooled for production of the Silverado EV pickup. This is taking place now while bolt production is underway. It is logical to assume at some point the Bolt production will stop and that space will go to building the silverado.
I own a Bolt and it’s the best car I’ve ever owned. The people that bash EV’s have never driven one. They listen to conservative media and are brainwashed. If you want to keep big oil’s profits soaring keep driving your ice vehicles. I’m going to spend all my savings on vacations.
2023 is the last model year for the Bolt, per GM announcement from a couple years ago. I hope they change their mind and continue production into 2024 and beyond. But they are committed to the more expensive Ultium battery replacing the battery the Bolt uses. Sure the Ultium is better, but somebody needs to make an AFFORDABLE EV, and the Bolt is that vehicle.
Main point of Ultium packs is they are less expensive. But Bolt EV will continue for awhile. Don’t know where you think you saw GM saying 2023 was the last year.
Does it even matter. 1st they are not readily available, and 2 if they are available, the dealers are charging 15% over the sticker to start. I work for a Chevy dealer and I can’t even order one. This push to electric is just so f’d up, make the damn cars available and affordable. I guess that goes to for all cars at this point. Just out there gouging everyone..
Interesting. AutoNation Chevrolet dealer had no difficulty accepting my deposit and having a bench order SRE-Retail Sold Augest 2022 for a 2023 Bolt. It’s not under dealers control for GM production schedules. All this will change in future and more GM e-models will be available. Please note: Replacement batteries for 2017-2022 recall has priority. It is my understanding Chev dealers in Southeast Florida are selling for no higher than MSRP on Bolts. Further more dealers were compensated on day one of any STOP sales orders years past. That said I do understand your frustration and disappointment. Situation is compounded with residue from pandemic, additional supply chain and of course computer ‘chips’ that is not limited to EV vehicles, also ICE vehicles as are already aware of.
I got mine for MSRP. It was a 4 month wait though. Order yours from a EV authorized dealer that has some allocated. It’s the quickest way to get one.
I bench ordered my 2023 in Aug 2022 MSRP. However, production suspended prior to what should have been 3-4 month delivery window. Hopeful production will re-start Feb 2023. Patience is my practice.

Chevy Bolt EUV is a great bargain!
There is a $7500 fed rebate plus another $500 to $100 available if you qualify. Great time to just grab one if one becomes available. Right now there are bunch of pre orders but people are backing off too and suddenly vehicle becomes available. If you go with no options LT Bolt EV, with Fed rebate, it may end up costing you less than 23k! A euv will cost less than 27k.
With more options it will be more, but a great EV under 23k is a freebie!
There is no planet B
A Bolt dealer just told me that GM was halting production of Bolts in 2 weeks for 2 months. Can anyone verify this information? If so, this will make it very difficult to buy one before the March 2023 battery regulations of the IRA start to be implements.
If you didn’t already have it on order with a VIN assigned by the end of 22, you had no chance of getting it in time to beat the IRS rules anyway.
The problem with the article is that it simply says when 2023 production will end at Orion. We all know, from may previous articles, that Orion is converting to produce other EVs. So … what’s left unsaid in the article (and elsewhere, unless a reliable source can be quoted) is whether there 1) will even be a 2024 model; and 2) if so, where it will be built?
I will probably end up buying a Bolt; though honestly I do have concerns about the model being end-of-life. The Ultium platform is purported to be the future and the Bolt is not based upon that.
I do drive a Volt, so a ‘dead’ model is not new to me, I do wish it were different though.
One comment: I was recently at the Cleveland Auto Show specifically to see the new EV’s (from all manufacturers) that are coming out this fall. Sadly, only existing models were on display.
Chevy only had the Bolt. None of the new cars coming out this fall, so this sends the message that despite all of the press these vehicles are not being pushed, which makes me concerned that they are not ready for volume production.
It’s not just GM, all of the manufacturers had only existing EV’s. This is concerning. Here’s an opportunity to get people interested without having to go to a dealer, and nothing.
Again, I’m disappointed.
I agree that GM, like other EV manufacturers are over promising their capabilities when it comes to new models. It’s a mistake to follow Musk and over promise and under deliver. I love my 2023 Bolt and hope you get yours soon. Everyone I that has driven it has been impressed with the ride, power and quietness. The 10 inch screen is great in design and functionality. It’s a great small hatchback that provides very low cost transportation and is affordable.
I think it is a shame that Consumer Reports bashes this car. They always focus on the earlier battery problems that have been fixed. They previously had them rated as a top 10 best used car buy. They need to review the new models and adjust their opinion.
Jerry Fragapane: Yeah, I had concerns with Bolt as well. However, I leased a 2019 and it worked for me. EUV is too pricey for me and won’t fit in garage. Regarding battery platform I understand you concerns. Sure the e-Equinox is inviting. However, Bolt is best buy for your buck! Only thing currently not in production. Been waiting since Aug 2022 for my Bolt 2023 bench order. I will be happy when I have a Vin#. GM executive resolution email and telephone contacts me monthly for monthly status. Of course Bolt being built in Orion, MI plant and in a UAW contract works for me as well. Jerry BTW are you related to Fragapanes that lived in Brooklyn, NY in he 70’s? The folks I’ve talked to about their Bolts all seem to have the same positive attitude. Similar to before I bought my Volt, and I do the same, praising how much I like the car.
I’m due for a test drive to the Bolt in the coming weeks; and I don’t feel like waiting any longer for vehicles that may, or may not, appear.

I agree with you about dealer’s taking advantage of low production and availability. Greed compounded with dealers undermining e-vehicle mission of reducing climate footprint. Dealers do not like e-vehicles because it will reduce dealers parts and service shop to nil. Here is Southeast Florida is my understanding dealers are not going over MSRP on Chevy Bolt. Sadly Ford is doing that with their e-lightening trucks and cars. That will end as soon as production from all brands increases in 2024 and further. If you find a dealer to take a deposit and issue a ‘workbench order’ no higher than MSRP (dealers cannot give you a Sales Order till a Vin# is available from what I understand). I have a bench order in from Aug 2022. GM executive lines say production has still not restarted as yet sadly. I am hopeful I will have vehicle by summertime Jul-Aug 2023.

I have a local dealer that said they were still taking orders for the Bolt EV and EUV, but they would be for the 2024 model year. The 2023’s are all allocated. So it sounds like they will continue to be made.

I love the car. I wish radio worked. The dealer wants to repair the radio at 125.00 per hour This never be allowed. Other than that the car is great, havent bought gas in 5.5 years.

I have one of the first June, 2021 purchased bolt euv’s, and the USB stick will only play certain songs. The gm radio situation sucks across the board.
Yesterday I left the house with a 93% battery , drove 153 miles and still had 154 left on the battery
