The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV is set to begin production soon, with the 3WT and 4WT trim levels scheduled to be the first units produced. In anticipation of the all-electric pickup truck’s debut, here’s a breakdown on the exterior and interior dimensions of the Silverado EV as compared to its ICE-powered Silverado 1500 cousin.
First up are the exterior dimensions. A Chevy Silverado EV WT unit measures in at 233 inches long, 81 inches wide (excluding side-view mirrors), and 78 inches tall, while riding on a wheelbase of 146 inches.

When compared to the ICE-powered Silverado 1500 Crew Cab with a standard bed, the Silverado EV is about eight inches shoter, three inches taller, and has a wheelbase that is roughly eleven inches shorter. Notably, the two Silverado nameplates post very similar width measurements.
Moving on to the interior, the Silverado EV WT boasts 42 inches of front headroom, 45 inches of front leg room, 65 inches of front shoulder room, and 62 inches of front hip room.
Silverado EV WT | Silverado EV RST | Silverado 1500 Crew Cab | |
---|---|---|---|
Front Headroom (in. / mm) | 41.9 / 1,063 | 43.9 / 1,114 | 43.0 / 1,093 |
Rear Headroom (in. / mm) | 39.7 / 1,009 | 38.7 / 982 | 40.1 / 1,019 |
Front Legroom (in. / mm) | 44.8 / 1,139 | 44.8 / 1,139 | 44.5 / 1,131 |

Front Shoulder Room (in. / mm) | 64.9 / 1,649 | 64.9 / 1,649 | 66.0 / 1,677 |
Rear Shoulder Room (in. / mm) | 63.8 / 1,621 | 63.8 / 1,621 | 65.2 / 1,655 |
Front Hip Room (in. / mm) | 62.0 / 1,575 | 62.0 / 1,575 | 61.2 / 1,554 |
Rear Hip Room (in. / mm) | 61.5 / 1,561 | 61.5 / 1,561 | 60.2 / 1,530 |
eTrunk Volume (cu. ft. / L) | 10.7 / 303 | 10.7 / 303 | - |
Once again, when compared to the ICE-powered Silverado 1500 Crew Cab, the Silverado EV has one more inch of front headroom, one more inch of front leg room, one more inch of front shoulder room, and one more inch of front hip room.
Overall, both vehicles have very comparable exterior and interior dimensions.
As a reminder, the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV rides on the GM BT1 platform, which is also utilized by the GMC Sierra EV. Notably, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup and GMC Hummer EV SUV ride on the wide-body variant of the same vehicle platform. For motivation, GM Ultium batteries are paired with GM Ultium Drive motors, and provide up to 400 miles of range on a single charge.
As previously mentioned, production will kick off soon at the GM Factory Zero plant (née GM Detroit-Hamtramck plant).

Can you explain how a crew cab short bed is as long as a crew cab standard bed despite the crew cab being the same cab size but a longer bed????
Would’ve been interesting to see the bed lengths compared in that same list…at least the numbers for that detail are readily available for all 3 examples. Then again, so is the overall length of a crew cab with a standard bed (241.4″).
One comes to expect more when the name of the site is “GM Authority”…
Why are the “sportier” versions of cars/trucks taller than their non-sporty versions?
I wonder why did GM build the Silverado EV with different dimensions than the gas version. That increases prices because they will not share parts. Ford did use the same body for both EV and gas version so the EV can have a lower initial price around $40,000.
Ford is not honoring that lower initial price. The cheapest Lightning pro you can build is 59,000.
Chev is doing it right and Ford is just adapting their last gen truck to fight ev parts. Even Ford said it was not a great idea and they are hard at work on a dedicated EV truck.
technically it is a better idea to adapt the existing body to make adoption of EV easier on people. where for d failed is they only offer a crew cab and one bed length. they should have doubled down on the option ins hte work truck versions since some need just two seats and an 8 foot bed, and some just need an extended cab and 6.5 foot bed. This is where GM and Stellantis fall flat as well so far, yet the GM one piece body makes it much harder to be flexible in this regard in the future
Dedicated EV platform allows more batteries, which means more range. Why the Silverado EV can be spec’d up to 400 miles range, and F150 lightning only up to 300 miles range.
Where is the weight comparisons?
Better looking Ridgeline than Honda’s design.
Don’t really care about any of that, but how much does it weigh?
much like the Lightning, these will weigh around 8,000 lbs. Quite a jump up from a basic ICE work truck to be sure.
“when compared to the ICE-powered Silverado 1500 Crew Cab, the Silverado EV has one more inch of front headroom, one more inch of front leg room, one more inch of front shoulder room, and one more inch of front hip room.”
Is headroom, legroom, shoulder room and hip room a concern for those that own an ICE Silverado?
I would like to know what the entry height is. How high is the first step into the cab? kickplate/threshold on door. On the WT vs others.
