GMC Expects 2024 Sierra HD To Attract Owners Of Rival Trucks

Recently, GM Authority reported that the GMC Sierra HD pickup truck lineup boasts GMC’s most loyal customer base. This is good news in the sense that current Sierra HD owners are likely to be repeat buyers of a newer Sierra HD, however, thereby presenting an opportunity for the upcoming 2024 Sierra HD to steal customers from rivals, and to do so in a lasting fashion.

In a recent interview with GM Authority Executive Editor, Alex Luft, GMC marketing managers said that the current Sierra HD enjoys a good amount of conquests, meaning that it steals customers from competitors. Even better, they expect the upcoming 2024 Sierra HD lineup to conquest at an even higher rate than before.

“We do a fair amount of conquests and we expect to conquest quite a bit with this truck,” Sierra marketers tell us.

This is a promising position to be in from a sales standpoint, as GMC Sierra HD sales volume is on the rise. To wit, GM recorded 27,463 deliveries of the Sierra HD during Q4 2022 in the United States, representing a colossal 72.4 percent jump on a year-over-year basis. And during the complete 2022 calendar year, GM moved 99,118 units of the Sierra HD, up a very healthy 40 percent.

The news gets better still, since the refreshed 2024 Sierra HD is set go into production in February 2023. This mid-cycle refresh is notable for the introduction of a new, range-topping trim level, the Denali Ultimate. This all-new model is characterized by Vader Chrome exterior accents, 20-inch Ultra-Bright wheels, and a unique Alpine Umber interior colorway.

On the outside, the 2024 Sierra HD features revisions to the front fascia, including the grille and bumper, along with six new exterior paint colors. Meanwhile, the SLE and SLT trim levels get a unique interior treatment, while the AT4, Denali and Denali Ultimate trims receive a more premium interior design.

As far as powertrains go, all 2024 Sierra HD trim levels but the Denali Ultimate are equipped with the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine as standard, which is rated at 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. Standard on the Denali Ultimate, and optional on the other trims, is the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine, which has been uprated in the 2024 trucks to make 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque.

Regardless of engine option, every Sierra HD is now equipped with the Allison-branded GM 10-speed automatic transmission. This 10-speed replaces the GM six-speed used by gasoline models prior to the mid-cycle refresh. Currently, official pricing is unknown, with more details expected closer to the start of production.

  1. They’re focused on the 2024’s and I can’t even get a build date on my 2023 Sierra Denali Ultimate that was ordered 8 weeks ago.
    WTF!

    1. Mike…That Statement “GMC Expects 2024 Sierra HD To Attract Owners Of Rival Trucks” Cracks Me Up Because I, Like You, Am Wondering Why Because They Can’t Even Satisfy The Demand They Have Now!..Are There Plans For New Plants…Suppliers…Or Hiring New Workers?

  2. Is an Allison-branded 10-spd AT as good as the real thing?

    1. They should be calling that the Ford branded Allison transmission since Ford helped design it.

      1. I think Ford co-developed the half ton 10-speed not the Allison 10speed.

      2. Ford didn’t have anything to do with the Allison transmission. They did work with Chevrolet to design and engineer two transmissions, a longitudinal 10-speed transmission and a transverse 9-speed trans-axle at least from what I’ve read.

  3. As long as they’re forcing OnStar on me there won’t be a new GM truck in my driveway. That is the most overrated POS they have. My wife had OnStar in her Malibu and they had her lost in the middle of TN at night. She finally called them and a customer service rep talked her home. Don’t rely on them for directions!

  4. Navigating the delivery of a new factory order GMC is a nightmare. Dealers are frustrated and not all are forthcoming with helping the buyer. We need an article explaining the process, price-at-signing vs. price-at-build date, dealer allocation restrictions, and updates on specific option availability during the chip crisis. Insights to these issues would help potential GM buyers right now.

  5. It all depends on the seats, I love the capability but GMs seats are awful. It doesn’t matter how much it tows if I can’t stand being in the driver seat while towing.

Unless it really impresses me we’ll still be going with a ram 2500 this summer.

  7. Aluminum was a game changer for ford. I was a loyal customer of the GMC trucks for many years. I have a 2022 f-350 dulley king ranch now. The interior on the ford is way ahead of the GMC. Look at all the first f-150 trucks that were aluminum they still look new today. The paint on the gmc scratches so easy. The duramax is good no complaints from me. The GMC is more prone to rust and living in upstate NY it’s important. GMC must go full aluminum before I start looking back.

    1. Aluminum is weak and when the Ford flips the roof will crush you. Won’t look pretty.

      1. Yup, it’s so weak it’s what the military has been using on their vehicles for decades.
Only an idiot would think they don’t meet the same rollover standards.

        1. Ever seen their aeroplanes when they get hit by a missile? It EVAPORATES just like in those War of World movies. Just a shadow is left. Sorry, but it’s STEEL for me. WWII is proof of that. Still digging up those planes where today you just got to sweep them up.

        2. Definately not. I was in the army there is no such thing as military grade aluminium lol we used steel.

“The Humvee seats four people with an available fully enclosed metal cabin with a vertical windshield. The body is constructed from lightweight and rust-resistant aluminum, instead of conventional steel.”

            Reply
            1. So the cabin metal because aluminum is a weak soft metal. There is also a reason we went away from humvee’s they do not have a good blast rating against IED’s. To answer your question I was in OEF.

  8. Since 2015 f-150 has been aluminum not one person has been crushed. Peterbilt trucks are aluminum bodies and that’s why they are one of the most popular trucks. My 2004 378 Peterbilt dump still looks like it came off the assembly line. If it was steel like a Mack it would be in bad shape.

  9. I traded in my 2017 GMC Denali last year and had 350 dollars of bondo work done to the kick plate area and the rear of the frame area I took a can of the of rust converter to not draw any attention to the rust on the frame. I had the frame undercoated every year but where the spray from the tires washed it off the rust appeared. I managed to get the truck traded without the dealership noticing the coverup but boy talk about being nervous. Rust is my worst nightmare. No if I lived south and didn’t have salt on the roads I probably would still be driving a GMC.
