GM Releases Fix For 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Brake Line Clearance Issue

GM has released a new service update for the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 related to clearance issues for the pickup truck’s rear brake lines.

The problem: certain units of the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 may exhibit a condition where the rear brake line contacts the rear axle.

The hazards: although the new service update does not explicitly state as much, contact between a vehicle’s axle and brake lines could result damage to the brake line, and may eventually lead to a brake fluid leak.

The fix: to address this issue, GM is instructing dealers to inspect the vehicle’s rear brake lines for clearance and possible damage. If the line does not clear the axle, a new line may need to be installed. Both rear brake pipes (right and left) may need to be replaced. The components required to perform this fix may include new bumper pieces, zip ties, two rear brake pipes, and brake fluid.

Affected components: rear brake lines for the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500.

Affected vehicles: units of the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Limited and fully refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500. Note that the Chevy Silverado 1500 was refreshed for the 2022 model year, but prior to the refresh, earlier 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 units were offered under the “Limited” nomenclature.

Number of affected units: it’s unknown at this time how many units of the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 are affected by this new GM service update.

Owners should: owners of affected vehicles can contact Chevrolet directly with any concerns they may have regarding this service update using the information listed below.

  1. Good grief Barra ! Better hire some engineers who can figure the simplistic job of how to bend brake-line tubing to avoid touching moving parts of a vehicle’s suspension. Too much funding devoted to this BEV garbage and not enough to performing QC inspections prior to assembly factory exit. Your failure to manage properly means we have thousands of vehicles roaming the Nation’s highways with brakes that could fail at any moment.

  3. Mary, you are paying your engineers way to much. They can’t even get brake lines correct.
