General Motors has just announced that the Chevy brand posted the highest sales volume increase during the 2022 calendar year in Brazil, Latin America’s largest country and main automotive market.
The automaker confirmed that Chevy sold a total of 291,418 vehicles in Brazil during 2022, registering an increase of almost 50,000 units and an outstanding 20-percent growth compared to calendar year 2021, making it the brand with the highest growth in the country in last twelve months. The Bow Tie brand’s result was driven by the highly popular Chevy Onix and Tracker in the Brazilian market.
In fact, the Chevy Onix once again led the market as the best-selling vehicle in Brazil with 160,495 deliveries, an increase of 25 percent in 2022, marking the seventh consecutive year that the Chevrolet subcompact car tops the overall ranking. Meanwhile, the Chevy Tracker sold a total of 70,806 units (up 39.5 percent) and ended the year as the best-selling crossover in the South American country for the first time.
“This new family of global Chevrolet vehicles has anticipated trends in the areas most valued by consumers, such as design, safety, comfort, connectivity and energy efficiency,” said President and CEO of GM South America, Santiago Chamorro. “It is worth mentioning that the significant growth of both Onix and Tracker has been driven by more sophisticated configurations – territory where the brand is gaining more and more prestige,” he added.
Chevy’s healthy double-digit growth contrasts with the 0.85 percent drop suffered by the overall Brazilian automobile and light commercial market in 2022, which remained stagnant at 1,957,699 vehicles sold, a result affected by instability in the supply of components. In addition, it also stands out from several competitors that posted declines and lower growth rates.
As such, Chevy is off to a good start in 2023 with high growth expectations in Brazil, where it is preparing important product innovations for this new year, focused on the highly popular pickup segment and EV category. The most crucial launch will be the all-new 2024 Chevy Montana, which will go on sale next month with the potential to generate even more growth and reclaim the brand’s number one sales spot in the country.

Some information is wrong.
The best-selling passenger vehicle was the Hyundai HB20 with 96,255 units. The Chevrolet Onix ranked 2nd and sold 85,252 units. The podium was completed by the Chevrolet Onix Plus with 75,243 units.
Although Onix and Onix Plus share many components, they are considered different vehicles because they belong to different segments and therefore should not have their sales added together.
