The GM Authority Take
Buick Envision sales did well enough against rivals to keep the premium compact crossover in second place in its segment during the fourth quarter of 2022, while GM’s combined sales performance of the Envision and Cadillac XT4 solidified that standing but wasn’t enough to outdo the Lexus NX like it did last time.
As we noted before, supply issues during the past year have contributed to lackluster Envision sales volume, though new vehicle inventory continues to improve to healthy levels for the Buick brand at more than 140 days supply as of the end of December 2022.
The 2021 Buick Envision was completely overhauled (redesigned and re-engineered) to become a strong model for the premium marque. Besides an all-new platform, mechanicals, exterior design, and cabin, the 2021 Envision added the Avenir as the range-topping trim – a first for the Envision nameplate.
The 2022 Buick Envision brings several updates and new features, including additional content for the optional 2022 Buick Envision Sport Touring package. The 2022 Buick Envision is among the best new crossovers under $40,000 according to Consumer Reports, following a recognition just a few months earlier, where the publication named the 2021 Buick Envision a top luxury SUV to buy.
The 2023 Envision represents the third model year of the premium compact crossover’s second generation. It remains largely unchanged from the current 2022 model year, save for a few updates to the color palette and equipment, including adding new standard equipment to the Avenir trim level.
The crossover continues to be powered solely by GM’s turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine, rated at 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The four-cylinder is mated to the GM nine-speed automatic transmission, with front-wheel-drive standard and all-wheel-drive optional. Production of the 2023 Buick Envision began at the GM Jinqiao plant in Beijing, China, on August 1st, 2022.
In December the Consumer Reports named Buick Envision among the best vehicles to fit three child car seats.
The 2024 Buick Envision will introduce a model refresh that includes new styling and a revised interior. Recently, we spied a refreshed 2024 Buick Envision testing in prototype form. The new look will draw inspiration from the 2024 Buick Envista that is set to make its North American debut sometime in the first half of the 2023 calendar year, likely this spring.
For its part, the Envista is an all-new entry-level crossover brings the Tri-Shield brand’s lineup back up to four models, as the Buick Encore was retired at the end of the 2022 model year. The new model incorporates sleek, streamlined styling lines and taut surfaces. The Envista, in turn, incorporates the styling of the Buick Wildcat EV concept, which provides design inspiration for Buick’s future all-electric vehicles, while also lending inspiration for future internal combustion engine based vehicles as well.
Looking beyond ICE models, Buick plans to launch its first electric vehicle in 2024 and go full EV by 2030. The Tri-Shield’s EV offensive in North American will begin with the Buick Electra E5 that was recently unveiled in China.
With inventory levels continuing to strengthen and a refreshed Envision on the way, we expect sales of the premium compact crossover to rebound, finally giving the Lexus NX a real run for its money.

Be careful of buying an Envision, mine has been at the dealers undriveable waiting for a part since July 7, 2022. The projected date for the part to arrive is March 6, 2023. Eight months for a part, yet they seem to be able to build new ones. I would avoid anything from China.
You can always trade it in and get a higher quality and better made Lexus.
Otherwise quit whining.
Lemon Law it.
Calling this car “premium” is elevating its’ quality. Less expensive crossovers offer a better choice.
I really like the looks of this Envision I just wish they could build it here… I used to wonder why certain vehicles where built in certain places now everything is so mixed up even Toyota uses Chinese parts… That’s the problem every chip, everything is made in damm China and they just keep us waiting for parts… We should have a return to US manufacturing!
Beautiful looking vehicle. New Pure design isn’t as sleek looking. Unfortunate a refresh is coming. I like the current lighting set up
Why are we making this car in China, plenty of auto workers right here in Ohio to produce this car with greater quality and better price. Send GM a message. Do not purchase this vehicle
