The 2024 GMC Sierra HD introduces a full model refresh for the heavy-duty pickup, unveiling a new exterior style, an overhauled cabin space, a new trim level lineup, and powertrain updates as well. Now, GM Authority has learned details regarding the updated exterior paint options list introduced with the 2024-model-year refresh.
The new 2024 GMC Sierra HD exterior paint options list now includes (relevant paint codes listed in parentheses):
- Downpour Metallic (GXP)
- Redwood Metallic (G48)
- Sterling Metallic (GXD)
- Thunderstorm Gray (GNO)
- Titanium Rush Metallic (G6M)
- Volcanic Red Tintcoat (GNT)
These six new hues replace six outgoing paint colors, which include:
- Cayenne Red Tintcoat (GSK)
- Ebony Twilight Metallic (GB8)
- Forest Metallic (GHR)
- Hunter Metallic (GED)
- Quicksilver Metallic (GAN)
- Pacific Blue Metallic (GA0)
One of the most important updates for the 2024-model-year refresh is the introduction of the premium 2024 GMC Sierra HD Denali Ultimate and GMC Sierra HD AT4X off-roader, the former of which incorporates Vader chrome exterior bits, 20-inch Ultra-bright wheels, and an Alpine Umber interior.
As for the greasy bits under the hood, the refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD is equipped as standard with the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, which is rated at 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, connecting to the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission rather than the GM six-speed automatic equipped by gasoline-fueled Sierra HD models prior to the refresh.
The 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine is once again offered as optional, with output uprated to 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque, versus 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque prior to the refresh. The L5P also connects to the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission.
Under the skin, the 2024 GMC Sierra HD rides on the more-capable variant of the GM T1 platform. Production will kick off next month at the GM Flint plant in Michigan. The new Sierra HD AT4X is set to launch later in the 2023 calendar year.

2024 model starts production in Feb 2023? What does that mean to 2023 production? Will 2023 be a basturd year of low production volume with leftover 2022 parts? And how does that GM justify when most 2022 vehicles were produced with missing parts (chips)? Even worse, many are still waiting on delivery of 2022 orders in Jan o 2023. Doesn’t make sense.
All 2022 HD’s have been delivered for months.
Delivered incomplete with non functioning components …
Some have some luxury items missing that they knew well in advance would be and would take time. If the dealer fed them some hopes and dreams on unrealistic timelines to make a sale, well that is on the dealer and the buyer for believing them. Either way they have a vehicle to drive, or it could just be left to sit in a field for months, your choice. For me, I would rather have it and missing a luxury item or two temporarily, then again who buys a vehicle at this time unless needed, well that is on them…
Sad to see Cayenne Red and Forest Green go away, those were two of my favorites from the previous year models. I would rather see Titanium Rush go away since it doesn’t know if it wants to be gray, navy blue, or purple. Haha.
But the Volcanic Red is a good replacement for Cayenne Red (might be a little bit darker), but I liked the candy apple red of Cayenne. Redwood will be a good addition to the HD lineup too.
I’m curious about what Thunderstorm Gray and Downpour will look like.
How stupid! Not one light color in the line up. A lot of people are going to be quite upset throughout the midwest as I am. Why? Simply due to the lighter colors not showing the dirt like these darker colors. I love some of the darker colors but, next to impossible to keeping it looking clean. Ridiculous decision….
They are saying these 6 colors are being replaced by the new 6 colors. Click on the + 2024 GMC Sierra HD Photos at the bottom of the article and you can see two different whites in the spy shots.
Wish the Sand Dune tan was offered on the HD AT4.
Thank You for pointing out those colors…. I’m glad to see the White Frost TriCoat. I was really hoping for the Quicksilver Metallic to be available. I just came across the following before chiming in to your comment as well. Thanks again, appreciate it.

I agree dumb idea !!! Love my silver truck
Well, that’s great! I’ve been waiting for the interior 2024 refresh to purchase a 3500 HD AT4 in Forest Metalic. Maybe they will add a few more “different” shades of black since the two they have now just aren’t enough choices for the same color!
The only no-cost color is Summit White. Nothing like nickel and diming the consumer. Just like they make you pay an additional $900 so your widely touted entertainment system works like it’s described. Just raise the price up another $1500 and include 3 years of service for the entertainment system and include most of the colors at no additional charge. At almost $100,000 for a pickup truck do you really think anybody will notice another $1500?
The recalls will be free though….
PLEASE do an article on the wheel options available for either a 2024 Chevy or GMC 2500HD below the High Country or Denali Trim level when that information is released. For some, the look of the wheels is equally or maybe even more important than the overall color. The wheels shown on the highlighted Denali are horrendous IMO.
You can find the 2024 HD order guide on the inter webs now. It has pictures of the stock and available wheels.
Want a rare vehicle?? Buy a new green Chevy. They surely won’t be making many if they don’t offer greens for an entire year. Soon, we’ll be living like we’re ordering a Model T. You can have any color you want, as long as it’s black.
I cant find any examples of Downpour Metallic (GXP) or Thunderstorm Gray (GNO). It would be nice to see all the colors somewhere in one location too.
when can you order the new 2024 gmc 2500
I can’t believe no Pacific BLUE Metallic .Thats the best looking color on a truck.Black, red ,and white all suck.
Wanted Pacific Blue ! Ordered truck over $95,000.00 than was told after it was sent to be built NO BLUE. Than I said NO ORDER. I’ll wait for a colour I like to come back. They offered me black, white and red ! I said I don’t like black, I don’t like white, and red is for fire trucks. Deals off. Thirty years working for the motors and I can’t believe the engineers who come up with the colours.
Anyone know if the Thuderstorm grey will be available on the 2500hd AT4?
Why dosen’t GM offer lighter colors in the GMC Denali? I see other lines have more interesting colors.
When will the Downpour Metallic be available for the 2024 Sierra HD?
I’m looking for that answer also i ordered a couple weeks ago lol
When is GM going to make a 2500 or 3500 series suburban? Preferably in the Ted Nugent zebra paint option?
