The 2023 Chevy Tahoe and 2023 Chevy Suburban are the third model years for each respective full-size SUV nameplate, with the Chevy Tahoe currently in its fifth generation, and the Chevy Suburban currently in its twelfth generation. Now, the 2023 Chevy Tahoe and 2023 Chevy Suburban are once again available with the Brembo performance brake kit.
The brake upgrade is formally called the Front 6-Piston Brembo Brake Upgrade with Color Matched Rear Calipers, and is tagged with RPO code 5JL. The kit was available for both SUVs with previous model years, but disappeared with the launch of the current 2023 model year. Now, however, the brake upgrade package is once again available.
The package adds the following content to both SUVs:
- Front six-piston Brembo brake calipers
- Red calipers on front and rear
- Front 16.1-inch by 1.3-inch Duralife rotors
- Chevrolet Performance logo on front calipers
The package is priced at $3,495, and is offered as an LPO-level option, which means it’s installed by the dealer, rather than at the factory when the vehicle is initially produced. The package is available for all 2023 Chevy Tahoe and 2023 Chevy Suburban trim levels. However, LS and LT models require the selection of either 20-inch or 22-inch wheels. Additionally, the package is not available in conjunction with the Tahoe RST Performance Edition package, which is already equipped with Heavy-Duty front Brembo brakes (RPO code J49).
To note, the Brembo brake package is once again available for the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500, 2023 GMC Sierra 1500, and 2023 GMC Yukon, as GM Authority covered previously.
As a reminder, the 2023 Chevy Tahoe and 2023 Chevy Suburban are offered with several powerplant options, including the atmospheric 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, the atmospheric 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine. Both SUVs ride on the GM T1 platform, while production takes place at the GM Arlington plant in Texas.

I don’t get it. I tow with our 2022 Suburban and 2021 Tahoe. The stock brakes have plenty of stopping power and I have never had an issue with brake fading. What the hell are folks doing with their Suburbans and Tahoes that would require a Brembo brake kit? Ir they racing these things on a road course with a short track 🙂 LOL ?
