2023 Chevy Bolt EV Gets Price Increase In January

The 2023 Chevy Bolt EV is the seventh model year for the nameplate’s first generation, following up on the refreshed 2022 model year with only a few changes and updates. Now, however, GM Authority has learned that the 2023 Chevy Bolt EV just received a price increase.

According to sources familiar with the matter, General Motors just applied a price increase to the 2023 Chevy Bolt EV, effective January 2nd, 2023. The price increase affects both trim levels and raises the vehicle’s MSRP by $900 across the board.

As such, the base-model 2023 Chevy Bolt EV 1LT is now priced at $27,495, up from $26,595 prior to the most-recent pricing increase. The top 2023 Chevy Bolt EV 2LT is now $30,695, up from $29,795 prior to the price increase. Note that both prices include a destination freight charge (DFC) of $995.

2023 Chevy Bolt EV Prices
Trim Level 2023 MSRP + DFC
1LT $27,495
2LT $30,695

Notably, the 2023 Chevy Bolt EV may be eligible for a $7,500 federal EV tax credit, per last year’s Inflation Reduction Act, which was passed in August. Assuming the 2023 Chevy Bolt EV is eligible for the full $7,500 tax credit, that price could effectively drop to $19,995 for 1LT trim levels, and $23,195 for 2LT trim levels. Indeed, with the potential tax credit factored in, a starting price under the $20,000-mark makes the new 2023 Chevy Bolt EV that much more attractive.

Critically, the 2023 Chevy Bolt EV also got a substantial price drop over the summer, with GM cutting MSRP by $5,900 for both trim levels in June. Prior to last year’s price cut, 1LT trim levels started at $32,495, while 2LT trim levels started at $35,695.

Compared to the refreshed 2022 model year, the 2023 Chevy Bolt EV introduces a new exterior paint lineup, with Radiant Red Tintcoat joining the list as a replacement for the outgoing Cherry Red Metallic paint color.

Under the skin, the Chevy Bolt EV rides on the GM BEV2 platform, and includes a single front-mounted electric motor that produces 200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, providing an estimated 259 miles of range. Production takes place at the GM Lake Orion plant in Michigan.

  1. Even with the price increase, it is still the best all electric car on sale in the U.S

  2. I have a standing Bolt 2023 Workbench order since Aug 202. It has the MSRP price of $27, 090.00 DFC (I added convenience safety package. I wonder if this MSRP price increase will adversely affect my work order? I did contact GM last month for a vin# on GM customer service executive line. I have it 2023 production has not even begun for 2023 bench orders Aug 2022. Being patient.

    1. Any order built on or after Jan 2nd will be billed at the higher price. If it is an SRE order, your customer will get Price Protection, assuming it is sold within 30 days of arriving at the dealership. After it is sold, GM will credit the dealership the difference…..

        1. basically a sold retail order.

    2. You may have to change your Bolt build to qualify for tax credit by March. Especially if you have been waiting for 6-months! I know two people who changed their Bolt configuration just to have their Bol order delivered in a week or two!

      1. Norn T: Being retired and having 30 solar panels along with 7 solar batteries, I am not concerned with tax credit as I have enough tax credit from Solar until I die! Thank you for letting me know about that though. Hopefully other post and commenters will pick up your post. Grateful

  3. How or when do you find out if it qualifies for the 7500 tax credit? Does anyone know how well two car seats fit in the EUV?

    2. Consult a Tax Professional for the Tax Credit. There are a lot of Bolt EV and EUV Facebook groups that can give some good information on these 2 models…

  4. GM just recalled 140,000 bolts due to seat belts causing fires.

    1. Yes! Minor adjustment for possible fire where seatbelt and carpet is from what I understand. At least GM does not wait for NHTSA to mandate recall.

    2. Had that fixed while my Bolt was in for battery replacement. Consisted of lifting the carpet under the B pillar and placing aluminum foil under the carpet.

  6. Of course GM did just like all the others to milk us on the Fed credit so they can get their bigger piece of the pie. They have no interest in fully pushing out the EVs first to get buy in.

  7. The Price of the bolt includes the $999.00 transportation fee !!!

But the dealer will no doubt try to charge this fee because they are blind
with greed, and many people will pay because people are generally STUPID !!!

    1. That transportation charge you’re talking about is the Destination Charge that’s clearly listed on the sticker. It’s not a dealer add on and you’re not getting a credit for this charge.

  8. Whata the point you can’t buy this car. Our lease ends and no dealership here has the car sadly. We loved having it. Now looking at competitors.

  9. NEW FIRE THREAT ADDS VALUE during coldest winter in 30 years. Details on CNN.

If GM is learning from their errors they could eventually come out on top.
