Representing the fourth model year of the subcompact crossover, the 2023 Buick Encore GX introduced a few select updates over the preceding model year. Now, GM Authority has learned that the 2023 Encore GX is no longer available to order in the Sapphire Metallic paint color.
Originally introduced on the Encore GX for the 2022 model year, Sapphire Metallic (color code GGK) has been built out for the remainder of the 2023 model year, meaning that GM is no longer building the small crossover in that color. As of the time of this writing, it’s unclear if this paint color will return for the 2024 Encore GX, which is set to receive a mid-cycle refresh.
When offered, this paint job was available on all trim levels – Preferred, Select and Essence – at an extra charge of $495. It couldn’t be combined with the optional Sport Touring (ST) Package (RPO code GFC).
The upcoming revised 2024 Buick Encore GX will bring updates throughout. For the exterior, the 2024 Encore GX will feature a similar front fascia treatment as the forthcoming Buick Envista, as well as new badging. Inside, the entire cockpit will get a complete overhaul, with a new horizontally oriented screen stretching from the driver’s side of the cabin to the center stack.
In regards to powertrain, the existing 2023 Encore GX engine options are expected to carry over to the refreshed 2024 model. This includes the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine, which produces 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, and the turbocharged 1.3L I3 L3T gasoline engine, which develops 155 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque. As for drivetrain options, FWD models are equipped with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), while AWD models receive the GM nine-speed automatic transmission.
As for structure, the Encore GX rides on the GM VSS-F vehicle set. Production of the refreshed 2024 Buick Encore GX will kick off in March 2023 at the GM Bupeyong plant in South Korea.

That Sapphire Metallic paint was, to my eyes, either the first or second-best color for the Buick Encore GX. It looked nice and shiny in the photos above, though I also like the red 2024 Encore with the new Buick design.
“Built out”? Lol.
I am not a fan of the new fascia being introduced. To me, it is a far less sophisticated look for a Buick.
What were they thinking when they decided to replace the 4 cylinder engine with a 3 cylinder? Was interested in purchasing an Encore GX until I discovered this. I can’t imagine this engine lasting long term.
Other manufacturers are also going this route, Nissan offers a 1.5L 3 cylinder in the rouge as a premium engine, as well as other automakers .
The 1.3l 3 cylinder has fewer moving parts that a 4 cylinder so may well prove to be more durable than you might expect.
In our family we have a Trailblazer with the 1.3 l and AWD. for more than 2 years . The engine is quite peppy and certainly moves the TB faster than the the first gen Encore with the 1.4l.
Before you write it off take one for a test drive.
