The 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X is positioned as a step above the off-road focused AT4 trim, with numerous updates to take its all-terrain prowess to the next level. Today, we’re taking a look at a 2023.5 GMC Sierra AT4X painted in the Onyx Black color in the following GM Authority Live Photo Gallery.
Onyx Black (paint code GBA) is one of just 11 exterior paint options on offer for the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500, and is available across the entire model lineup for an extra charge of $495.
Up front, we see an AEV stamped steel bumper with heavy-duty recovery points, as well as a sturdy steel skid plate protecting vital mechanical bits. Notably, this particular unit appears to be missing the available winch. The front grille features gloss Black header and insert bars with nickel-colored accents.
Moving around to the side, we see body-colored door handles and an AT4X hard badge on the lower end of the front passenger door, as well as another hard badge indication that this example is equipped with the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine. As for rollers, this ensemble rides on the standard 18-inch Gloss Black painted aluminum wheels (RPO code RQ8), which are wrapped in 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires.
Out back, we see a body-colored CornerStep rear bumper, along with a GMC MultiPro tailgate prominently featured front-and-center. More badging can also be seen, including another AT4X hard badge.
Pricing for the 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X will start at $83,595, which includes the destination freight charge (DFC). This represents a $3,395 price bump over early-build 2023 Sierra AT4X models, which had a starting MSRP of $80,200. The price increase is related to the addition of new standard equipment.
As a reminder, the all models of the GMC Sierra 1500 ride on the GM T1 platform, while production takes place at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana and GM Silao plant in Mexico.

All we need now, is a reg. cab, short box edition! They have it in Mexico, why not here? It’s been WAY too long without a reg cab short box. For how much these things cost, we should be able to order what WE want. Not what GM says we want!!!!
As a GM of a full line dealership in the midwest, I think it’s imperative that we stick with what works. How we allowed Ford to produce a retro Bronco in 2 different sizes and own that market is beyond me. Why cant we do a shortbed 2 door version of a Jimmy and a Colorado “Jimmy Sport” version. This would kill it in a market that’s begging for GM to do something bold outside of the EV spectrum.
They don’t own anything. They are outsold by the Wrangler and the Bronco sport isn’t a top seller in the compact CUV class.
The reason they don’t is flat out anything you mentioned won’t sell. The market is saturated enough in specialty areas that has two offerings. The Bronco/Wrangler and TRX/Raptor markets didn’t magically gain a bunch more sales. Look at how hard it is for three specialty competitors to exist in a shrinking market with the Camaro, Mustang and Challenger.
GM is already doing plenty of bold stuff (mostly in the EV realm) but even past experience doesn’t light the sales world on fire, nothing has from anyone as they are specialty items that don’t bode well every day and only uptick sales marginally. For example the Raptor, they only sell around 20-30k a year and the development costs are quite extensive on a vehicle that doesn’t sell all the much more than most the model range. Now Ford is struggling financially. As mush as I like fun exciting cars, a stable financial future is much more important so catering to that group is a better choice.
The Blazer is a good example, the Blazer is a better long-term choice for a much broader audience. Doing a Bronco competitor would have been good for a few years but once the newness wears off and people realize it really is a specialty vehicle that isn’t that great every day and only good off road (and realize they never use it for that or once a year tops) they trade it in for something that better aligns to their day-to-day life. Sure it doesn’t have the pizazz of an off roader but it appeals to 90 percent more of the population and that is where the sales are long term. The Bronco will taper off (similar to how the Gladiator slowly has) once the newness wears out and those early eye shoppers run out.
Let’s just be glad you aren’t running the company…

Regards to Bronco/Wrangler – go look up ADS and get back to me. They sell because they are actually more practical than a 2 door sports car with little to no back seat that has zero ability in adverse conditions. Wrangler has been around for years and has an outstanding owner loyalty base.
Bronco grabbed the people who wanted something new and fresh, some new customers and some repeats to the Ford brand.
Regards to Raptor/TRX – this is no where near the performance truck segment and the pricing would be in the 36-65k range, not the 85-120k range you are comparing it to.
You definitely bring up some great points and had my respect until your BS potshot at the end killed your credibility. I have no interest in running the company, just echoing the sentiments of my customer base of 25 short years.

Mizzouman99, I agree with your comments in both your writings. GM is and has been, behind the eight ball for a long time. With the future for them, going pretty much al EV, is going to chase what customers they have left, away. I do agree, that GM trucks have been getting more ugly by the year. They did try the retro look with the SST etc. But again, they did it wrong. Almost had it, but they still missed it by a mile. Maybe when all the EV’s start to fall, the people that make the decisions, will wake up and do something right for once. One can only hope!
