Chevy commanded over half, or 61 percent, of total GM utility sales, followed by GMC with an 18 percent share and Buick and Cadillac each with a 10 percent share.

The compact Chevy Equinox crossover posted a 44 percent increase to 46,646 units, representing about a sixth of all GM utility sales with 17K more deliveries than the next best-selling utility. That would be the full-size Chevy Tahoe SUV, which posted a 22 percent increase to 29,585 units. The full-size Chevy Traverse crossover followed with a 136 percent jump to 25,388 units. That means Chevy utilities were the top-three GM utility vehicle sellers, accounting for over a third, or 37 percent, of all GM utility sales.

GM’s all-electric utilities currently on sale, the Chevy Bolt EV, Bolt EUV and Cadillac Lyriq, saw a cumulative 226 percent leap in sales to 14,745 units, accounting for five percent of overall GM utility sales.

GM sells six SUVs across its divisions in the United States – the Chevy Tahoe and extended-length Chevy Suburban variant, the GMC Yukon and its extended-length Yukon XL variant, as well as the Cadillac Escalade and its extended-length Escalade ESV variant. Cumulative deliveries of these SUV models increased 21 percent to 74,301 units, again led by Chevy with its two models, followed by GMC, and then Cadillac. Buick does not sell any SUVs, but only crossovers.

During a presentation given at the recent GM Investor Day event held this past November, GM President Mark Reuss touched on a wide variety of forthcoming vehicles from across the GM brand spectrum. Those include several next-generation crossovers and more all-electric vehicles.

We expect sales of GM utilities to continue growing in the near- and medium-term future, as the automaker introduces more products via refreshed or all-new models, while also increasing production volumes of key models.

  1. My employer buys lots of Equinoxes and Silverados.

  2. GM cannot crack the code and sell volumes like Toyota & Honda with one vehicle. Nox and Terrain together are impressive but I keep waiting for a GM winner.
