The 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X adds a bevy of off-roading goodies to the full-size pickup to enhance its already-impressive all-terrain capabilities. New for 2023 was the addition of select American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) tidbits on the “standard” Sierra AT4X, and now, the corresponding price adjustment has been announced.
The new 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X now starts at $83,595, including the destination freight charge. This represents a $3,395 increase over the early-build 2023 Sierra AT4X, which started at $80,200. This price bump is related to the addition of the following equipment as standard affair:
- AEV stamped steel front and rear bumpers with heavy-duty recovery points and winch capability
- Hot-stamped boron steel front approach skid plate
- Grille with gloss Black header and insert bars with dark nickel accents
- 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires
A minor but interesting detail to note is that a $100 hike in destination freight charge is included in the overall price increase. Destination is now $1,895 instead of $1,795.
Despite the addition of the AEV equipment, the 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X is largely a carry-over of the refreshed 2022 model. However, new for 2023 is the GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X AEV Edition. Regarded as the most off-road-capable factory Sierra 1500 ever produced, this all-new trim level adds the following equipment over the “normal” AT4X:
- Five hot-stamped boron steel skid plates (including front approach, steering gear, transfer case, fuel tank and rear differential)
- Race-inspired, laser-engraved 18-inch AEV Salta wheels in gloss black finish with AEV’s recessed valve system for added protection
- Updated front grille and fascia to accommodate the new bumper and larger tires, gloss black door handles and a black contrast inner tailgate
- AEV branding, including on bumpers, embroidered headrests and all-weather floor liners
- Available off-road rocker panel protectors to help shield the sills and frame rails and an optional bolt-on step assist when not off-roading
In total, the 2023 AT4X AEV Edition features 11 extra components over the AT4X trim.
As for powertrain, both these Sierra AT4X variants are exclusively available with GM’s naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, which produces 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and is mated to the GM 10-speed automatic transmission.

Starts at $83,595!!!
Let that sink in.
GM has a great habit about forcing on options (these bumpers) that should be free or at least an option. They can afford to lessen their profits to get clients and BOOST sales. At $80k? No thank you, especially when the truck shouldn’t be more than $68k for shocks and a pair of lockers. At $80k I’ll take the Denali Ultimate so I don’t look like a poser without a supercharger. Seriously I’d rather get a power wagon at that point. Better ground clearance and lockers with detachable swag bar
YIKES – Makes the $65,500 MSRP of my 2022 SLT seem like a bargain!
Gorgeous luxury truck. Outrageous price!
“The new 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X now starts at $83,595……”
LOL. Oh, for sure, it will make the headline story and cover photos for Car and Driver, Road & Track and Autoweek. It’ll get great reviews. It looks tough, looks good.
There are a ton of clueless people within these forums who will tell me GM did their market study and came to the conclusion that a lower cost Ford Maverick-fighter WILL NOT WORK…..THAT THIS 85 THOUSAND DOLLAR BLOATED FULL SIZE TRUCK IS WHAT THE PUBLIC WANTS, RIGHT NOW!
I think at the end of the day, if GM sells 15 thousand of these Mortgages On Wheels, they will be lucky. So much for GM Market Studies…….
You are the clueless one. The Ford Maverick is “sold out” and it is running around 50000-75000/year capacity. Those are really small numbers. The reason Ford brought it was a way to attract new buyers because their only offering there was the EcoSport. Ford did not unlock some new goldmine, but gm did by bringing these expensive offerings. If 20000 people buy this thing yearly, gm will have made more profit in one year than ford will ever make off their Maverick. Gm did their math, their Trax did over 100,000 in sales while being outdated in 2020. Ford this year so far sold 50,000. Chevy’s new Trax is a much smarter offer for young people and gm. Gm is a business that has to bring a profit more than bring whatever niche model they can to their customers.
Yikes💰💰💰💰💰. They proud of that thing!!👎. Better off to buy the cheap half-ton n slap a few goodies on it!! Although they not really cheap anymore also🤦♂️
Folks it doesn’t matter if this truck was $283,000.00 dollars there would be someone willing to pay ANY price and or finance it for 20 years !!!
~$84k for a 1/2 ton pickup truck. Wow…
If people are willing to pay these astronomical prices, they will just continue going up and up. It’s bad enough that historical inflation has increased prices across the board over the past 2 years, but vehicles may be the worst. In 2008, my Dad bought a new Silverado LTZ Ext. Cab 4×4 and the sticker was ~$45-50k. At the time, this was the highest trim option available (leather, woodgrain interior, 20″ wheels, etc..). Today, you’re hard-pressed to get a loaded Colorado for that price.
@ Infamous
I agree with you. I bought a new 2018 SLT Sierra 6.2L 8 spd out the door in 2018 for $45k. Sold it for a 2019 HC which I regret, (didn’t like the 8 spd in Sierra) but I stopped down at the dealership over Thanksgiving break and a 2022 SLT Sierra with a 6.2L and 10 spd was priced at $67K!!!! There is NO way in just 4 short years that a truck should jump up $22k!!! I bet most peoples salaries per year didn’t do that!!! Prices are insane and we as consumers MUST STOP PAYING THEM!!!
Wow, comparing apples to Lima beans?
Your 2018 would have a stickered for mid to upper $50s. Fortunately the demand was much different then and you could get more than $10k off sticker. Fast forward 4 years, a major pandemic which continues to cause parts shortages, transportation issues which all lead to significant demand and dealer markups. While the 2022 has a sticker price of $67k, two upgrades have occurred to the model since you purchased that 2018. While the difference is extraordinary at approximately $10k, you’re getting a very different truck that’s substantially improved from that 2018.
Also keep in mind that when you looked at that 2022 SLT, your 2018 model would have been worth around $42k so you essentially lost zero dollars while driving that truck for several years. Suddenly that $10k increase does t look so extreme when you compare realistic numbers that are apples to apples.
The problem is at $83.5 I rather get the Ram 1500 TRX for $85.7 and get the ridiculous 702 HP supercharged engine.
Great truck, but at that price, you would be crazy to buy this instead of a Hellcat powered TRX (with nicer interior, too).
…and not even a diesel option—and to make matters worse you’re still stuck with DFM! The least they could have done was put a non-DFM motor in it.
83k yesh . No thanks . Crazy price . Just buy raptor , trx at that point .
The problem is “ignorant” people are paying these outlandish prices for these trucks. It’s complete insanity. I had a 2019 High Country. It was MSRP at $67k, bought it for $60K. Was it nice, yes, but It wasn’t worth that amount of money. A dealership in town wanted it and I sold it back to them for $50K with 44k miles on it. I came out way ahead on the deal, and I bought a nice well taken care of 98 ext. cab C/K 1500 Silverado. NO PAYMENTS and truly love DRIVING the truck the way a truck should be driven. Plus all the extra electronics these new trucks have, takes away from the driving experience. This guy will not be suckered into buying one of these overpriced trucks again. I’d rather have a beautiful house and land. But so many people don’t look at the big picture, especially in the past 2 years.
Unfortunately, there are many people out there that would rather finance a vehicle for 10 years (that they can’t afford), rather than purchase a lesser model because “appearance is everything”. If they would rather work until the day they die and have their coworkers sweep their lifeless corpse off to the side as they continue working, that is their deal. I do not get it, but to each their own.
Having zero knowledge or common sense about finances can be highly detrimental to one’s life.
Personally-
I think an affordability problem is looming on the horizon…….
