New 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X In Desert Sand Metallic: First Real-World Pictures

First breaking cover with the introduction of the refreshed 2022 model year, the GMC Sierra AT4X offers enhanced off-roading prowess thanks to a bevy of off-road-ready features and equipment. Now, we’re getting our first real-world look at the new 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X in Desert Sand Metallic paint thanks to the following photos.

Desert Sand Metallic (paint code GTL) is one of 11 exterior paint colors available for the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500, and is only offered for Elevation, AT4, and AT4X trim levels. Desert Sand Metallic isn’t offered for the rest of the trim level lineup.

Desert Sand Metallic certainly looks good on the rough-and-ready 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X, complementing the off-roader’s black trim nicely while giving it a custom sort of vibe. Up front, we see an AEV stamped steel bumper with heavy-duty recovery points, as well as a sturdy steel skid plate protecting vital mechanical bits. Thirty-three-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires wrap the black multi-spoke wheels in the corners, while the nose is dominated by a large gloss Black header grille with red lettering for the GMC logo plus dark nickel accents.

Further black detailing is seen for the window surrounds and sideview mirrors. In the fenders, we see badging that gives a nod to the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine cradled under the hood, a standard feature of the GMC Sierra AT4X. Output is rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, all of which is directed to the four-wheel drive system through the GM 10-speed automatic transmission and a two-speed transfer case with selectable off-road modes.

Pricing for the 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X now starts at $83,595, including destination freight charge (DFC). That figure is a $3,395 price increase over early-build 2023 Sierra AT4X models, which started at $80,200. The price increase is related to the addition of new standard equipment, including the AEV bumper, the hot-stamped boron steel skid plate, the gloss Black header grille, and the 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires.

As a reminder, the GMC Sierra 1500 rides on the GM T1 platform, while production takes place at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana and GM Silao plant in Mexico.

  2. I’m not too impressed- other than the bumpers and skid plates, it looks like the AT4. For the additional $3400, they should have figured out how to incorporate 35’s and a diesel engine option. I’ll stay with my freshly ordered High Country Chevrolet 1500 diesel with max tow, optioned out at $12 grand less.
