GM introduced a mid-cycle refresh for the GMC Terrain crossover with the debut of the 2022 model year, while the subsequent 2023 model ushered in only a few changes and updates. Now, GM Authority has exclusively learned when the start of regular production (SORP) for the 2024 GMC Terrain will begin.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the 2024 GMC Terrain will begin production in May of the 2023 calendar year. It was originally unclear if the next-gen GMC Terrain would debut for the 2024 model year or 2025 model year, but given the May 2023 SORP date for the 2024 model year, it’s now looking like the next-gen crossover will debut as a 2025 model.
During the recent GM Investor Day event, GM President Mark Reuss provided insight into several future GM products, including the next-gen GM Terrain. During the presentation, Reuss stated that next-gen crossover was “one of the most beautiful SUVs in that segment,” also indicating that it was “very truck” like and would debut a “big interior and exterior enhancement” for the nameplate.
Notably, the current-generation GMC Terrain was originally slated to receive a refresh for the 2021 model year. However, as a result of complications stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, the refresh was pushed back to the 2022 model year instead.
In terms of sales, the GMC Terrain sold 17,917 units in Q3 of the 2022 calendar year, landing it between the Ford Bronco Sport and Jeep Cherokee in the mainstream compact crossover segment. Those numbers are an impressive 81-percent year-over-year increase compared to GMC Terrain sales numbers recorded for Q3 of 2021.

As for the current GMC Terrain, motivation is sourced from the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine, which is rated at 175 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 203 pound-feet of torque at 2,000 rpm. Under the body panels, the GMC Terrain rides on the GM D2 platform, with production taking place at the GM San Luis Potosà plant in Mexico.

I see Terrains everywhere I go. It’s quite popular even though I hardly see any marketing for it. I suppose another year with the current version won’t hurt. I’m interested in what the new model looks like. My guess is with all of the references to a new “truck-like appearance” it will heavily borrow inspiration from the GMC Sierra.
The front end on this thing is just ridiculous
Wondering if the new terrain model for 2025, will come with a new engine or at least give us some options choices not just the 1.5 in the higher trim levels like the SLT AT4 and DENALI trims .
Yes, I am also interested in an upgraded engine for the new models Under powered with the 1.5 engine fir sure.
Finally some one agrees with me !!!
When will the 2024 GMC Terrain Denali’s start arriving at dealerships?
Gm needs to install the 2.0 l LSY ENGINE same engine in the Buick envision and Cadillac XT4 then it be worth buying !!!!
I have 2019 Terrain SLE nicely equipped with the optional 2ltr 252 hp.Love it.I was going to purchase a new 2023 but the 1.5 is way to sluggish.GM should at
least offer the Buick 2ltr with 235 hp or you have to move up to a Cadillac.
I have the 2023 Terrain Denali and it is amazing other than 1.5 litre engine. Very sluggish and certainly not what I expected in the upper level. GM would definitely have a winner with an upgraded more powerful engine . If they do not, I will be looking elsewhere.
