Here’s When 2024 Chevy Equinox Production Will Start

The 2024 Chevy Equinox follows minor changes for the 2023 model year and a mid-cycle refresh for the 2022 model year, and now, GM Authority has exclusively learned when the start of regular production (SORP) for the 2024 Chevy Equinox is scheduled to begin.

According to sources familiar with the matter, production of the 2024 Chevy Equinox is set to begin on May 8th, 2023 calendar year, while production of the 2023 model will end on May 7th. Notably, this date indicates that the 2024 model year will not debut the next-generation Chevy Equinox. Rather, the next-gen crossover, which we recently spotted undergoing testing, will likely drop in for the 2025 model year.

During a presentation at the recent GM Investors Day event, GM President Mark Reuss discussed a number of future GM product plans, including the next-gen Chevy Equinox, stating that GM was cooking up a “big redo of our popular ICE Equinox.” At the time, Reuss didn’t specify if the next-gen Chevy Equinox would debut for the 2024 model year, or during the 2024 calendar year for the 2025 model year. However, with the 2024 Chevy Equinox SORP date now known, it appears as though the next-gen crossover will in fact debut during the 2024 calendar year as a 2025 model.

Reuss also stated the next-gen Equinox would be “high-volume” and “much more profitable than the old one,” also adding that the next-gen would be a “second lap” for the underlying architecture.

As for the current generation, the Chevy Equinox was the third-best selling model in the mainstream compact crossover segment with 46,646 units sold. The Equinox was also GM’s third best-selling model in the U.S., slotting in behind the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks.

As a reminder, the current Chevy Equinox is motivated by the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine, which is rated at 175 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 203 pound-feet of torque at 2,000 rpm. Under the skin is the GM D2 platform, with production taking place at the GM Ramos Arizpe plant and GM San Luis Potosí plant, both of which are in Mexico.
