When GM debuted the 2024 Chevy Trax in October 2022, it only showed photos of the up-level 2RS and range-topping Activ trim levels. Today, we’re bringing you an exclusive first look at the upcoming 2024 Trax outfitted in the base LS trim in the following GM Authority Live Photo Gallery.
As an LS model, this particular 2024 Trax is positioned at the bottom of the Trax lineup.
LS | 1RS | LT | 2RS | ACTIV |

Hence, the Trax LS is placed below four other trim levels, giving is a starting MSRP of $21,495, before options.
This Trax is painted in the Summit White (color code GAZ) and equipped with the optional LS Convenience Package (RPO code ZFT), which includes several additional features that the base model does not have (relevant RPO code in parenthesis):
- Remote Start (BTV)
- Heated driver and front passenger seats (KA1)
- Carpeted rear floor mats (B35)
- Outside heated power-adjustable mirrors (DLF)
- Body-color mirror caps (DP6)
- 17-inch Silver-painted aluminum wheels (RSE)
It’s worth noting that the LS Convenience Package is only available for the LS model, as it name clearly implies.
Up front, we see LED headlamps arranged in the two-tier arrangement found across the Chevy crossover lineup, along with a chrome bar stretching across the entire front fascia. Chevy’s gold Bowtie sits front-and-center on the grille bar.
Moving around to the side, we see a few items from the LS Convenience Package, including the 17-inch wheels and body-colored mirror caps, along with body-colored door handles.
Finally, out back we see a tucked-under exhaust treatment, vertically-shaped reflectors positioned on the sides of the rear fascia, taillights with horizontal spears, faux vents below said taillights, and a black roof-mounted antenna setup, comprised of a comms fin and an antenna.
In regards to the 2024 Trax LS trim as a whole, this entry-level model features a suite of noteworthy items:
- Chevy Safety Assist
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Wireless Android Auto compatibility
- 17-inch steel wheels with wheel covers (replaced on this model by the wheels included in the LS Convenience Package)
- Active Noise Cancelation
- Eight-inch diagonal color touchscreen with 3.5-inch diagonal Drive Information Center
- SiriusXM radio
- Tow USB ports
- Cruise control
- Privacy glass
- 60 / 40 split-folding second-row seats
- LED headlamps
- Compact spare tire
It’s also worth noting that LS and 1RS models have Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs) with a reduced intensity LED low beam. Meanwhile, the rest of the lineup gets DRLs with LED signature light. Regardless, all trim levels receive LED headlamps as standard.
As a reminder, the 2024 Chevy Trax marks the beginning of the second generation for the subcompact crossover. The all-new Trax is longer, lower, and wider than the preceding first-gen model, while the interior receives an extra three inches of rear legroom and a 12-percent increase in cargo capacity.
As for powertrain, all trim levels of the 2024 Chevy Trax are powered by the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine, the same powerplant found in the LS and LT trims of the Chevy Trailblazer. Output is rated at 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, while the GM six-speed automatic transmission serves as the only transmission choice. the Trax will be FWD exclusively, as AWD will not offered.
As for structure, the 2024 Trax rides on the the GM VSS-F vehicle set, and is set to go on sale in the spring of the 2023 calendar year.

Looks nice
Looks nice, but the 3 cylinder engines are a joke! I could understand If they got outstanding gas mileage, but they don’t.
It’s nice to see premium features and style finally make it to the entry-level vehicles. Great job, GM.
It is probably cheaper for GM to build a package instead of endless customization;however, you don’t need heated seats in Florida, so this could backfire in certain regions.
An older relative still complains about being forced to buy a radio. I used to laugh at his cheapness until discovering he saved over one million doing odd jobs and not indulging in luxuries.
Me, I miss ashtrays!! 20%–1 out of 5 Americans–still smoke and even more do in China
just cant imagine loading it up for camping trip, bring the dog and 2 friends and then hit the 3 cylinder to get on the freeway….but love the look etc.
I don’t understand why GM doesn’t offer the 1.3L which gets better gas mileage and better performance then the 1.2L. I’ve also read reports that the 1.3L is more refined. There couldn’t be that much difference in the cost.
I really agree with this. The overall size and design of the new Trax dictates it should have a bigger engine than the 1.2L turbo. The Seeker in overseas markets gets away with having the 1.5L turbo pushing 186hp, with respect to GM’s price point plan for the Trax the 1.3L turbo would more than suffice. Just add the cost of the engine to top Activ and RS trims.
I would like to see the 1.5 4 cyl like in my 2017 Malibu offered as an option. Decent acceleration and great mpg. Asking for too much?
You have to step up to at least the Equinox to get the big block…..
Still no AWD!
You’ll need to step up to a Trailblazer to get AWD. From my understanding, Chevrolet will not be offering a AWD for the Trax…..
When I purchased my 2014 Trax, the Equinox was actually cheaper. I found the equinox very uncomfortable on my back which I have issues with. The Trax is so much more comfortable and I have no problem accelerating onto the highway.
The only complaint, and mostly due to the “trip to the carwash” is the antenna. Why, if GM has offered the shark fin type in many vehicles since a long time ago, this Trax has the same old type of antenna as my 2015 Sonic RS?
Standardization is something that GM keeps struggling with.
The antenna is an issue? It’s the same style antenna numerous automakers have been successfully using for over 20 years. Could be worse…Ford is still using an old school, standard mast antenna on the F150 and Lightning.
Shark fins may be visually more modern, but the fractal antenna technology they employ doesn’t provide the same quality and range of reception as a mast or even a stubby aerial antenna. The shark fins work great if you are close to urban areas or the origin of the signal, but do not pick up signals in rural or suburban areas as reliably.

On the ‘no problem’:
Yeah, because you have the bigger motor. I’ve driven both and know what you mean.
One of the best Chevrolet exterior designs currently available. It’s sleek like Mazda without being over styled. Looks like a model intended for Buick line up before Pure design language. Reminds me of the cool GEM Encore (a vehicle that proves GEM can be First-World comfortable) that should have either been Federalized or copied onto a VFF platform.
Yes, I agree. if you would replace the Chevy bowtie on the grille with a Buick tri-shield in a circle, it would have a family resemblance to the current generation Encore GX. But since this is a Chevy, the headlights are too close to Buick’s new design.
I feel like GM is gifting Buick’s former design language to Chevrolet. New Blazer has Buick looks, too, which are really traditional GM lines with modern cues. Chevy has needed better exteriors for a while & this seems to be the solution.
Buick is big in China but will never be as profitable or as world wide as Chevy. Just wish “Pure” wasn’t so bland and still used the sweep spear
Are you certain that is a Trax and not a Trailblazer? No idea why the General would create 2 almost identical vehicles that compete in basically the same market segment. Great marketing example for creating consumer confusion.
They already do that with the Equinox and the Blazer in the Chevy family alone, not to mention the other brands with vehicles of the same size. Dimensionally, the Equinox and the Blazer compete in the same group (as does the trailblazer) yet combined with Terrain and Envision sales, GM still isn’t in the top spot for sales numbers. Toyota RAV4 is killing it, especially with the hybrid version. GM is very odd in the way they do things after Mary took over, and are falling right in line with the “greenies” on going full electric to the grave. They claim there’s no market future for sedans nor hybrids, yet Honda, Nissan, Toyota, and others are still selling plenty of sedans and hybrids. GM just doesn’t know how to compete well anymore. Quite a disappointment to have known what GM used to be capable of, and what they are now. Part of me feels like the often used bail-out moniker of “Government Motors” is actually coming to fruition. GM seems more focused on profit per vehicle, rather than profit per volume. The Chevy Equinox is their best selling “SUV” selling double the number of Tahoes in 2022. Maybe they should focus on making more appealing/better-than-the-competition vehicles that they sell more of, with smaller profit margins that would be be overcome by volume sales. 18% profit on 212,000 Equinoxes is better than 30% profit on 105,000 Tahoes … isn’t it?
I am anxious to drive one, but I wonder if the price point is like the old adage “If the price sounds too good to be true, it probably is!” Still I think that the styling is a home run. I like the size and since it’s only my wife and I, it’s probably big enough. My neighbor has a 2021 Traxx and I definitely do not care for the styling of it. Another neighbor has a 2021 Trailblazer and really likes it. I do as well.
Looks like a nice starter car. Hopefully is performs as well as the Kia & Hundi models in the same class. Chevrolet needs serious help. All of my Grand Children have moved up to the mid or full size SUVs after a couple of children.
