Certain examples of the 2022 and 2023 GMC Sierra, as well as the 2022 Canyon, were shipped from the factory without underhood insulation. Now, GM Authority has learned that a dealer-installed retrofit has recently been made available.
Owners of affected GMC vehicles can now take their vehicles to the dealership to install the hood insulation per a new GM customer satisfaction program. To perform this retrofit, dealers are instructed to order and install the hood insulators on-site and free of charge to the owner. It should take GM technicians roughly 0.2 hours, or 12 minutes, to complete the retrofit.
All together, there were 15 models across three GM brands that were shipped without the hood insulation and thus impacted by this customer satisfaction program:
- 2023 Buick Enclave
- 2022 Chevy Camaro
- 2023 Chevy Camaro
- 2022 Chevy Colorado
- Refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500
- 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500
- 2022 Chevy Silverado HD
- 2023 Chevy Silverado HD
- 2022 Chevy Traverse
- 2023 Chevy Traverse
- 2022 GMC Canyon
- Refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500
- 2023 GMC Sierra 1500
- 2022 GMC Sierra HD
- 2023 GMC Sierra HD
It’s important to note that this program is active until December 31st, 2025. Affected owners can find more information regarding this retrofit by using the GM program code N222379652. In addition, the retrofit can only be executed at certified GM dealerships by certified GM technicians.
As previously covered, affected units of the GMC Sierra and Sierra HD were given a window sticker with an associated RPO code of R8V, while affected GMC Canyon models were tagged the R6N RPO code.

Hopefully not like the heated seat retrofit ? As in just a statement they are beginning or actually going to begin and complete the repair of the deficiency?
Good luck with it I am 6 months past the promised retrofit date of the heated seats controller.
It was never promised a date, that is what your dealer said to get you to buy a vehicle in these times. It has always been when parts are available and they had no set time, just targets…
“General Motors Co (GM.N) said on Friday that vehicles sold without heated and ventilated seats due to the global semiconductor shortage will be eligible, likely starting in the middle of 2022, for a retrofit that activates those features.”
GM headset hero said starting in July, sales guy said after Q2. Theparts are available they are making trucks with the feature now just not “retrofitting” the trucks that already have been sold.
I will concede Q 2 is not a specific DATE but it does specify a range of dates that any person with an IQ above 75 can figure out.
So I guess common sense is not that common as an old prof used to say often
I was told by GMI would be getting a letter about the heated seat chip.Have not received it.Or one for the heated stirring wheel. It would make more sense to send the letter and the chips to the dealers. Was told that the chips would be available in the 4th quarter. That didn’t happen. Contacted my dealer he said he would order the chips.
