GMC Hummer EV Among Popular Science 100 Great Innovations Of 2022

The GMC Hummer EV is among the craziest vehicles available for purchase today. The all-electric supertruck boasts insane acceleration numbers, as well as impressive off-road capabilities. Today, the Hummer EV has been recognized for its feats, and was named to Popular Science’s 100 great innovations of 2022.

Off the bat, the publication points out how inefficient the GMC Hummer EV is in regards to its energy consumption. Despite this, it’s awe-stuck by the technology behind the electric supertruck’s drivetrain, with a nod towards the four-wheel steering capability and the accompanying CrabWalk function. Separately, GM’s Super Cruise was also named one of the publication’s 100 great innovations of 2022, which happens to be a standard feature on the Hummer EV.

Popular Science isn’t the only one impressed with the Hummer EV’s powertrain. In October, the all-electric supertruck was recognized with a 10 Best Engines and Propulsion Systems award from WardsAuto thanks to its GM Ultium battery technology and GM Ultium Drive motor technology

“Is it a bit over the top? Of course. But in an era when the industry is still figuring out what’s possible with electrification, the Hummer EV is the moon shot, an in-your-face demonstration of what can be done at the very outer limits of electric-vehicle engineering,” WardsAuto commented.

Additionally, the praise for the Hummer EV isn’t all derived from its drivetrain. According to the J.D Power 2023 ALG Residual Value awards, the Hummer EV was only one of three GM vehicles to be recognized for high resale value, the other two being the Chevy Silverado 2500 HD and Chevy Bolt EV.

As a reminder, the GMC Hummer EV will be manufactured in two forms – the Hummer EV Pickup and the Hummer EV SUV. For now, only the pickup version is currently being produced, with the SUV version expected to begin early next year.

Speaking of production, the Hummer EV Pickup is manufactured at the GM Factory Zero plant (née GM Detroit-Hamtramck plant) in Michigan. Output is sourced from the GM Ultium architecture, with the Hummer EV Pickup Edition 1 model producing 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of wheel torque.

Both Hummer EV variants, as well as the Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV, ride on GM’s dedicated “body-on-battery” or “Ulti-body” electric BT1 platform.

  1. And the media continues to heap blind praise on Mary, regardless if this truck is practical, remotely affordable, or desired by the public.

Reminds me of Hollywood celebrities voting for, and praising, other celebrities at their ridiculous award shows.
