General Motors has revealed that the new Chevy Tracker has reached a new milestone, surpassing 250,000 units built in Brazil, one of three countries in the world where Chevrolet‘s subcompact crossover is manufactured.
GM’s Brazilian subsidiary surpassed 250,000 units of the Chevy Tracker manufactured at the GM São Caetano do Sul plant on Tuesday, December 20th, when it held a ceremony at the facility to commemorate the achievement. The new Tracker reached the mark of quarter of a million units produced in Brazil after overcoming multiple inconveniences caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In fact, the fourth-generation Chevy Tracker began production at the Brazilian plant at the end of January 2020, a few weeks before the COVID health crisis broke out, idling production several times and causing a global shortage of semiconductors. As such, the 250,000th Tracker represents an important milestone that GM Brazil has achieved with a substantial amount of effort.
Since Brazilian launch in March 2020, the current Chevy Tracker has enjoyed high levels of acceptance in the local market. In fact, it’s currently the country’s best-selling crossover. According to our Chevrolet Brazil sales report for November, the Tracker accumulated 62,524 units, topping the list of Brazil’s best-selling utility vehicles in the first 11 months of this year.
Production of the Chevy Tracker for all of Latin America was exclusive to the São Caetano do Sul plant until last July, when GM added production the GM Alvear plant in Argentina to increase total volume and meet high levels of local demand for the model. The units manufactured at the Alvear complex are mainly intended for export to Colombia and Brazil, the largest markets for the Tracker.
GM’s strategy of manufacturing the Chevy Tracker simultaneously in Brazil and Argentina seeks to reinforce the model’s position as the best-selling crossover in all of South America, as well as to improve the amount of units exported to Mexico – Chevy’s second-largest Latin American market following Brazil. The Tracker’s success is attributed due to its outstanding combination of design, technology and safety by local media, making it the most complete model in its class.
