GM has built over 40,000 vehicles equipped with Super Cruise, General Motors’ semi-autonomous driver assistance system.
First introduced on the Cadillac CT6, The General has slowly expanded the semi-autonomous driving feature’s availability across its lineup. Thus far, Cadillac, Chevy and GMC offer vehicles with this technology:
- Cadillac CT4
- Cadillac CT5
- Cadillac Escalade
- Cadillac Escalade ESV
- Cadillac Lyriq
- Cadillac XT6
- Chevrolet Bolt EUV
- Chevrolet Silverado 1500
- Chevrolet Tahoe
- Chevrolet Suburban
- GMC Sierra 1500
- GMC Yukon
- GMC Yukon XL
- GMC Hummer EV Pickup
GM has been busy expanding Super Cruise (RPO code UKL) in its product lineup as part of a larger promise to enhance its advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Right now, there are currently 14 different models available with the semi-autonomous driving technology, with GM planning to offer the technology in 22 vehicles by the end of 2023.
Additionally, GM has been expanding coverage of Super Cruise. Back in 2019, 70,000 miles of roadway were added, bringing total coverage to over 200,000 miles.
Then, in November 2022, the self-driving technology was expanded to cover more than 400,000 miles of roads in the United States and Canada, doubling the previous expansion. It’s worth noting that the CT6, the XT6 and the Bolt EUV received a more modest update as these vehicles don’t use GM’s Global B electronic architecture, also know as the Vehicle Intelligence Platform.
The expansion doesn’t end with North America. While Super Cruise was introduced for the U.S. and Canadian markets, China has also received the semi-autonomous driving technology, first announced back at the 2018 CES Asia. In addition, GM is set to introduce Super Cruise to the Middle East, with the entire Cadillac Middle East lineup receiving the technology by the 2024 calendar year.

I expect GM to add Puerto Rico in its collection of mapped highways because PR has begun its path to the 51st State.
As GM expands the road coverage in the super cruise programming, are these improvements being uploaded th the vehicles that have this feature?
I’m buying a Bolt EUV in Jan. But I’ll pass on the super cruise
Test drive Super Cruise before deciding. I have it on my Cadillac XT6 and it is outstanding.
Super Cruise is a must have option. A real safety feature in urban expressway bumper to bumper driving. Makes long distance Interstate driving less tedious.
Its not worth the cost and it turns into a monthly Cost, don’t need it or want it
If you don’t do much highway driving, then it’s probably not worth it for you. If you do a lot of highway driving, particularly in an everyday commuting context, then not getting it is being penny-wise, pound-foolish. Every third-party review of Super Cruise says it’s an outstanding system.
I have the Bolt EUV with SC, love it! Use it daily when driving to work, Church. Had to drive a Cadillac Escalade from Warren Michigan to Las Vegas boy that ride was sweet you super cruise all the way takes a lot of stress off driving.
All of the most insanely overpriced union shops marked up vehicles they sell as well. Wow…garbage company and product.
If you go price out a Toyota or Honda you will find they are pretty much all the same cost to each other comparable trim to comparable trim. A lot of gm vehicles are actually less expensive when you add the features you want to the Toyota in packages that come standard on gm vehicles.
Not sure about you but I would be more pissed to find out my car was built by $12 an hour inbred rednecks in Alabama or Mississippi, the 2 least educated states in the USA, and pay more for said vehicle than one built in a union shop with what you call overpriced labor. At least you know gm isn’t ripping you off.
Oh and drive a vehicle with super cruise before you call it garbage. There is a reason no automotive testing company has said it’s garbage and it’s not because they are being paid off but because they aren’t ignorant fools like you. They know what they are talking about.
Super Cruize was included with my Bolt EUV package, However, after 3 years I will have to pay 25.00 per month to keep it. Another way to keep it is to get an OnStar subscription at 49.00 per month. Something about that really smells when you consider that the option increases the cost of the vehicle by 2200.00
The charges for Super Cruise and OnStar are price gouging, period. The claim is GM has to update maps. True, but GM has to update maps anyway to install Super Cruise on new cars. Updating maps on existing cars, using remote update (over the air) costs GM essentially nothing, but they charge for the service. This support “service” reminds me of the “service” a bull provides to a cow…..
GM doesn’t have to update your maps. Probably lots cheaper for GM just to put new map data on vehicle when it’s made and let you worry about ending up on a dead-end in the dark. Why don’t you buy a vehicle that doesn’t use maps ?
I’ll never trust a vehicle to drive for me. They advertise it to relieve stress on long drives. But how stressful is it to always having to watch out for it quitting while your going down the road. I enjoy
driving myself.
Super Cruise will never be distracted. You are subject to distractions. Super Cruise will prove safer than human drivers.
It is amazing. You won’t understand until you actually try it. Even for limited bursts, it is revolutionary. Stop an go traffic on the highway- go ahead and ‘enjoy’ it if you must… I’ll be relaxing and not dealing with the banality of it all.
I build my sports cars with manual transmissions. Get the right tool for the job- an EV or Escalade isn’t some pure driving experience that is tainted by the assist. You’re already dabbling in technology assists, why don’t you just enjoy the beauty of science and technology. Or just lambast it while you submit comments on your mobile super computer that has more processing power than the super computer that sent us to the moon.
Have you ever had it quit even for a moment?
Have you ever had it quit even for a moment? Are you ready to pay a high monthly subscription rate for it. I would get bored riding in the passenger seat.
