Fiat 500X Won’t Be Replaced As Chevy Trailblazer, Buick Encore GX Rival

With the recent announcement of the Fiat 500e at the 2022 Los Angeles Auto Show, many some wondered where the Fiat 500X would go from here. Now, it looks like Fiat parent, Stellantis, is content to let the subcompact crossover run its course, with no replacement currently in the works for the North American market.

There will be no successor to the 500X in the U.S. as the Fiat brand makes plans to go all-electric by 2030, according to Road & Track. This decision is based on sales performance, as U.S. customers preferred the smaller 500 over larger 500L and 500X offerings.

“We have a clear plan to not do anything besides the 500. It’s the one model people like,” Fiat brand CEO, Olivier Francois, was quoted as saying.

An important element to note is that the lack of a U.S. successor to the 500X in the U.S. doesn’t necessarily mean that this will be the case for other markets, particularly Europe. And if there is a 500X successor in international markets, the United States and Canada won’t get it.

Sales numbers of the Fat 500X have been truly abysmal. Accounting for less than one percent of the subcompact crossover segment, the 500X moved 757 units from January 2022 to September 2022, placing it last among its rivals.

The 500X’s GM competition strongly outperformed the Fiat, selling more than 20,000 and 40,000 units of the Buick Encore and Chevy Trailblazer, respectively, from January 2022 to September 2022.

The Fiat 500X arrived in the U.S. as a 2016 model. At the time, Fiat fielded a larger line of models, including the 500 hatchback, 500L five-door hatch and 124 Spider. Now, the 500X currently stands as the only Fiat model sold in the US.

As for the all-new Fiat 500e mentioned above, the EV will serve as Fiat’s flagship and only model in the U.S. market. The small EV is expected to arrive in North America in 2024 as a 2024 or 2025 model.

I’m six-foot-four and the 500X is the only Fiat model I fit in behind the wheel. I drove one in an auto show, along with its platform-mate Jeep Renegade. I don’t much care for crossovers, but what a difference: the Renegade just felt more natural to drive.

Got a 500X on rental during a storm. I’m one of the few people to actually like the vehicle. I favor sedans, really liked the Dart which was always at Avis, and noticed a few similarities.
The chassis provides taunt steering which is always a plus and 500X hugged the ramps I took at higher than average speed. Also, the vehicle has a handsome exterior design. 500X did well in Europe and I hope a second generation is produced. Would be very easy to reskin Mokka.

The Dart was the twin of the Fiat Viaggio, so that would make sense.

Is anybody else a little surprised that they even still make these? I almost NEVER see them… actually saw a red one yesterday and it didn’t look half bad, but looking at the sales numbers I now know why I never see them.

If GM can do their best to capture a portion of those 2-3 Fiat cars sold per day, they’ll be back on top!… LOL

Encore GX isn’t selling as briskly as it once did. Neither is Trailblazer. Soul, a segment misfit, bests them both. Most of these offerings aren’t even SUVs but elevated compacts and wagons or what they now call a “CUV”. 500X is a nicely designed AWD compact and like a fancy, modern day Plymouth Horizon. Don’t worry, Stellantis will find a way to make FCA US vehicles worse.
I’d still rather have a sedan.

Fiats are all pieces of junk. Here in Quebec no one recommends them.

The Jeep Renegade is quite similar to the Fiat 500x, and is still available

I have not seen a Fiat 500 for several years. I thought they were out of production my bad, they’re probably just all in the shop.

I thought that FCA had stopped marketing the Fiat 500, but no, on the StellantisNorthAmerica website, one finds info on a 2023 500X and 500e.
