Sam Williams, a Dallas Cowboys rookie who plays defensive end (DE), was involved in a car accident a few days ago, totaling his Corvette C8 Stingray.
Williams struck a black Infiniti QX60 that was being driven by a 71-year-old at an intersection around 2:15 pm in Plano, Texas. The collision ripped the driver’s-side front wheel from the C8, along with its front and rear fenders. A video (embedded below) captures the Corvette being taken away on a flatbed truck, with the less-damaged Infiniti in tow.
At this time, the Plano Police Department is investigating this incident, and do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved, though they are examining if speed played a role.
“The driver of the Corvette is Samuel Williams, a football player with the Dallas Cowboys. Both parties were transported to a local hospital for precautionary reasons, but no serious injuries have been reported,” the Plano Police Department was quoted as saying.
23 year-old Williams was the 56th overall pick for the Dallas Cowboys in the 2022 NFL Draft. After a stellar college career at Ole Miss, the rookie DE has 13 tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble so far this season as a member of the Cowboys’ defensive line.
“I’m okay everyone so is the other person that was involved,” Williams tweeted.

Unfortunately, Corvettes and crashes aren’t mutually exclusive. Recently, GM Authority has covered several Corvette C8 incidents, including a high-speed crash involving a Stingray and a Toyota GR Supra, a Lime Green Corvette that was split in half, and a completely disfigured C8 that looked like it fell off a cliff.
Although it’s unknown at this time if Williams was driving at high speeds, we feel responsible to remind everyone to NEVER race on public streets. Save the antics for the road course, instead.

Boys and their toys. Speeding?
Or, “I can do what I want, I am an athlete!”
Another Cocaine Cowboy’s story…
While I love performance cars, this is a lesson in arguing for more horsepower in any vehicle.
The common bragging line that has emerged, especially with EVs, has been how much horsepower they have…and how they can ‘smoke’ ICE cars.
For those defending EVs, you have your reasons for wanting one, and that’s perfectly fine, but boasting about more horsepower really shouldn’t be viewed as a positive one. Just like this Corvette, they’ll be raced and pushed beyond their limits.
It’s not more horsepower it is instant horsepower! While some are built to be fast like some ICE vehicles are built to be fast most are built to be efficient and fun to drive and to look at. This also like most ICE vehicles. Just like ICE vehicles there are morons driving both and only extolling the speed.

One other thing it is probably safe to say he may have been above the speed limit the story says, “Although it’s unknown at this time if Williams was driving at high speeds, we feel responsible to remind everyone to NEVER race on public streets.” So, you might not want to judge until all the facts are in!
Probably had something to do with the cold weather and summer only tires. Below 50f it’s like you’re on an ice rink. I live in VT, had the Z51 package on a couple of my Vettes. Cuts down on the already short driving season early spring and late fall. Specifically ordered my C8 with non Z51 but with mag ride which comes with all season tires. Never going to see a track, very happy with it.
The high temperature in Plano on the 22nd was about 45, so chances are it was slightly cooler at 2:15 PM. If Williams was still running summer tires, he was at a disadvantage.
Idiot with money, nothing more……
Could have killed a innocent person !!
So people just to be clear we immediately blaming the sports car being driven by the 23 year old athlete with laser sharp reflexes and assuming that the septuagenarian old fart in the mommy mobile Infiniti mall crawler did nothing wrong…..
Look for that repaired Infiniti on a Used Car lot near you in about 3 months. Will probably have a “clean CarFax” as well. The ‘Vette appears to be a goner, but I’m sure will donate it’s internals to some worth frankenstein build.
While drugs and alcohol have been ruled out, STUPIDITY hasn’t……
Amazing, simply amazing! These idiots out there are destroying these C8’s as fast as the Bowling Green Assembly Plant can build ’em! Whether it was the Corvette driver who was at fault of the SUV’s driver, one thing is for sure, another quality built GM product has been destroyed, but fear not, GM can build another one for you, but you’ll have to wait a bit, cause you see, they build one, you wreck one, they build one, you wreck one…it’s a game played every year with Corvette owners. Not saying it’s always their fault, sometimes “Ca-Ca just happens” in life. Hopefully no one is killed in these “destruction derby’s” that always seem to find Corvette drivers, no matter where they are, but sadly not every “oops how’d that happen” ends well.
So, do I get paranoid driving my pristine and beautifully cared for 2001 C5, around city streets and the freeways here in good old SoCal…damn right I do! Trying to make it to my 75th birthday (and 23rd birthday of my C5) without being “taken out” by some nut behind the wheel that I see on the lose when I do get a chance to get out and enjoy some fun canyon roads or a trip up Highway 1, taking the scenic tour along the beautiful California coastline, Targa Top stored behind me.
Anyway…all we can do is to be aware of the crazies out there and drive defensively, so far it’s worked for almost 23 years but odds are, someday…the “Big One” is going to happen and by then, I hope to have enough money saved up or get a good insurance claim handled by an insurance company so that I can get me a low mileage, well cared for used C8, and preferably one that’s not got a Carfax record as long as your arm where it’s been lightly abused (sic) and professionally put back together again after being dragged out of the Pacific Ocean! Just trying to stay positive here, the crazy things I been a witness to over the many years here in Southern California could make a successful documentary! Hummmm.
Physical damage indicates excessive speed beyond posted speed limits. Another cost addition to the insurance risk pool used by actuaries to increase all motorist insurance premiums in that area and also on a national basis. We as motorists all pay for this driver’s lack of judgment and care.
