Chevy Malibu Pricing
For reference, here are the 2022 and 2023 Chevy Malibu starting MSRPs by trim level, including the $1,095 destination freight charge:
2022 Malibu
- LS – $24,495
- RS – $25,495
- LT – $27,895
- Premier – $34,595
2023 Malibu
- LS – $25,795
- RS – $26,795
- LT – $29,195
- 2LT – $32,595
The 2022 Chevy Malibu is the seventh model year of the nameplate’s ninth generation, with minor changes that include the deletion of several dealer-installed accessories along with the discontinuation of the base L trim level, making the LS the new entry-level trim.
The 2023 Chevy Malibu ushers in a variety of important changes and updates compared to the preceding 2022 model year. Along with a price increase of $1,300 on most trims, the midsize sedan no longer offers the Premier trim level nor the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LTG gasoline engine that powered it along with the GM nine-speed automatic transmission. Going forward, the 2023 Malibu is available exclusively with the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LFV gasoline engine, which mates to the MRG continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). This combination was previously offered for all 2022 model-year Chevy Malibu trim levels, with the exception of the Premier. Output is rated at 163 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque.
Chevy has now repackaged the Premier as the new 2LT trim level. As a result, the 2023 Malibu’s top trim now costs $2,000 less than that of the 2022 model. Additionally, two of the Malibu’s dealer-installed convenience packages are no longer available to order.
During the recent GM Investor Day, GM President Mark Reuss revealed that a Chevy Low-Roof EV is on the drawing board, which could be a potential all-electric replacement for the Chevy Malibu, describing it as a “pretty dramatic” D-segment vehicle with sedan-like proportions. The model is in an early stage of development and has already been confirmed for China.
“This one’s coming a little bit later, and this is a Chevrolet version of it. It’s a ‘Car-D’ primarily for the Chinese market, and we’ll see the desirability as we clinic this,” said Reuss during his product roadmap presentation to investors. “It’s a little bit further out, but this is a pretty dramatic low-roof, sedan-like proportion that we’re just beginning to design and engineer. It’s really quite a statement from a design standpoint, but we’ll see how it goes.”
Production for the 2023 Chevy Malibu kicked off at the GM Fairfax plant in Kansas City on September 7th, 2022. The online configurator tool is now live for the 2023 Malibu.

GM Car Sales Down 21 Percent To 53K Deliveries During Q2 2024
Most of automaker’s traditional cars and unibody vehicles posted sales losses.
My Ford Fusion and Malibu will probably be my last American vehicles. Toyota and Hyundai are producing some pretty swanky sedans. You can get a good deal on a Malibu today as mentioned in the article. I am coming to the realization if I do purchase a Malibu I may never buy another GM or Ford again.
Well if is what you want then buy one.
If GM sold more sedans they would make more sedans.
Or if GM made more sedans and advertised/promoted them, maybe they would sell more and stop pushing that traffic into Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Kia and Hyundai showrooms.
Too Late!! I wanted to trade my 34,000 mile 2017 Malibu 2 months ago for a New 2022, Dealers had NO STOCK! & Malibu Factory was shut down to save “Computer Chips” for the more profitable 4 door Giant Trucks! I installed 4 new tires on my 2017 & it is good for 5 more years!
Way to go GM!
Dr. B: Although I can understand your frustration, I must also address the misinformation you stated.
First, this is/was not just a GM problem. In the last 13 months, if you walked into a Ford, Chevy, Toyota, Mazda, Volvo, Buick……………………..store to buy a vehicle, you would see the same story. Again, this is/was not just a Chevy and/or GM issue. Although the factory producing the Malibu was shut down for some time, it’s been open way more than just 2 months now. I’ve had my 2021 Malibu for exactly one year now and my car was one of the first produced after that plant re-opened.
So it you are truly talking about 2 months ago, then all you had to do was search inventory for several dealers within 50 miles of you and you would have found some cars. So I get it, but to say “Way to go GM!” is truly inaccurate at best.
There are Malibus available if you really want one. Dealer traded work.
Stock supplies are short on all models. Most mfgs are going to push for people to order to keep inventory down and cut incentives.
The chairman of Toyota finally broke the silence last week. He basically said that this all electric push is misguided and wrong.
This explains why Toyota is now double the size of GM. A quarter century ago GM was larger than Toyota.
GM has lost size because they made many mistakes over the years.
Not building better vehicles. Not killing in needed divisions. Bad contracts with unions. Not having good small cars and more.
But yet GM will be #1 in sales in the States this year.
Do not underestimate GM. They may push the EV but they are still selling and are still introducing new ICE like the Colorado and Traverse.
All the mfgs are scared. This is a major change and complaining is not going to change anything.
Might watch what GM is doing. They will offer EV and ICE of most models at Chevy and GMC.
This is why we have two Blazers, Silverado, and Equinox.
The powers will attack Toyota soon for speaking out. You watch the Digital and media they will turn.
CR already slapped Toyota as not recommended on the Trucks .
Ron M: Yes, that’s because Toyota is so far behind the rest in EV’s that they are now coming up with their excuses for why. The one all EV that they just introduced has been a total failure thus far with pathetic range and wheels that just fall off. The fact that it took Toyota so long to “figure out” why the wheels were falling off is just more evidence that Toyota will only be on top for a short time.
Toyota’s tag line should go from “Toyota, we make it easy” and “Toyota, find new places” to “Toyota, average at best but we’re the best at marketing”.
