Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing Wins Car And Driver 2023 10Best Award

The 2023 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing stands as the pinnacle of the brand’s performance-focused sedans. It’s not every day a consumer can find a single vehicle that combines a V8 engine, a manual transmission, four doors, RWD, and a Cadillac-level of luxury, but the CT5-V Blackwing fills this role. Now, the supersedan has made Car and Driver’s 2023 10Best list.

A repeat 10Best award winner, it really comes as no surprise that the CT5-V Blackwing made the list for the second time in a row. The publication lauded the Cadillac sedan for its driving dynamics, both on and off the track, as well as its brutish supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 gasoline engine. The available manual transmission was given particular praise, as most of the CT5-V Blackwing’s competitors come equipped with an automatic transmission only.

It’s worth noting that the 2023 Chevy Corvette and the 2023 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing were also named to the 2023 10Best list.

To name vehicles to this list, Car and Driver separated cars from trucks and SUVs, and will award the latter next month. Additionally, every vehicle on the list has to go on sale by January 31st and be cheaper than $110,000. After driving every vehicle that fits these criteria, each car is ranked on a scale of zero to 100, with the 10 highest averages named to the 10Best list.

As a reminder, the 2023 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing features the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 gasoline engine, which develops 668 horsepower and 659 pound-feet of torque, and exclusively powers the rear wheels. As for structure, the Cadillac rides on the GM Alpha 2 platform.

Production takes place at the GM Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan alongside the standard Cadillac CT5 and Cadillac CT5-V, the Cadillac CT4 and CT4-V, the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing and the Chevy Camaro.

  1. So why can’t Buick have a performance sedan based on this. Think “Grand National” or “GS”.

    1. I remember when GM showed the Buick Avenir concept, I think the internet went crazy to see what GM had created. Even me. From my perspective everything about it looked gorgeous and it had the performance chops as well. Then GM axed it and made it a trim level. I was so disappointed.
So @morrisangelo, I agree with you. I wish that GM had gone through with producing the Buick Avenir, or creating a performance vehicle for Buick. Maybe they thought it would have cannibalized sales from Cadillac if they gone through with it or too expensive to produce?

Only GM knows why they did not produce it.
