Production of the 2022 Buick Encore has officially come to a close at the GM Bupyeong plant in Incheon, South Korea.
As GM Authority reported back in June, production of the 2022 Buick Encore was scheduled to come to a close on November 30th, 2022. GM had previously planned to end production late in August, but later extended production for the U.S. and Canadian markets by several months. In addition to ending production of the 2022 Buick Encore, the GM Bupyeong facility is no longer producing the 2022 Chevy Trax, as well.
Back in March, GM Authority exclusively reported on the Encore’s departure following the 2022 model year, with the added production capacity expected to be filled by the Chevy Trailblazer.
Initially debuting for the 2013 model year, the 2022 Buick Encore is the 10th model year for the first-generation crossover. Under the hood, the Buick Encore is equipped with the turbocharged 1.4L I4 LE2 gasoline engine, which is rated at 155 horsepower and 177 pound-feet torque, all of which is directed through the GM six-speed automatic transmission. Under the body panels the Encore rides on the GM Gamma 2 platform.
Buick Encore sales dipped 52-percent year-over-year in 2021. Looking ahead, the Buick Encore will be indirectly replaced by the new Buick Envista, with GM President Mark Reuss confirming in November that the Envista is indeed headed for U.S. shores. The confirmation coincides with an earlier GM Authority exclusive that the Envista was under consideration for the North American market.
The all-new Buick Envista is on sale in China now following a world debut over the summer. Under the hood, the Chinese-spec Envista is powered by a turbocharged 1.5L I4 gasoline engine producing 181 horsepower, connecting to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Under the body panels the Buick Envista rides on the GM VSS-F vehicle set, the same bones as the all-new 2024 Chevy Trax. The Buick Envista will also offer a new range-topping Avenir trim for the North American market.
For now, the new North America-bound Buick Envista is expected to be produced in South Korea, although it’s unclear at this time exactly which South Korean facility will make it.

Sad. But the Envista is FWD only but has a better interior probably too.
The all-new 2024 Trax will only be available in FWD as well. AWD will be available in the Trailblazer and Encore GX….
Yeah when is going to be Made in The USA?
