The excitement around the upcoming 2024 GMC Sierra HD is building, and prospective customers are itching to see the refreshed heavy duty pickup in all its configurations. Now, GM Authority’s eagle-eyed photographers have exclusively captured the photos of the refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD in the SLT trim level.
As reference, the SLT is positioned as a mid-tier trim level that slots between the SLE and Denali models. This particular unit – a 2500 HD Double Cab with a Standard Bed and 4×4 – is finished in the Summit White hue (paint code GAZ). Notably, this example is equipped with the X31 Off-Road Package, which includes a few all-terrain goodies (relevant RPO code in parentheses):
- Hill Descent Control (JHD)
- Skid plates (NZZ)
- Off-road suspension
- Twin-tube Rancho shocks
- X31 hard badge
Additionally, this package requires opting for 4WD and All Terrain tires.
Up front, we notice the trim-specific chrome fascia, which includes the trim-specific grille and front bumper. Front-and-center is the scoop and three-slat grille. Flanking the grille are the revised headlights with GMC’s updated C-shaped signature. The fog lights are integrated into the vertical black trim piece within the chrome front bumper. The small badge on the front bumper, just ahead of the front wheel, indicates that this example is a three-quarter-ton 2500 HD, while the bade on the front quarter panel, just ahead of the mirrors, communicates that the truck is equipped with the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine.
Moving over to the side, we spot chrome-finished side mirror caps and door handles. The X31 badge is prominently displayed on the rear of the bedside. As for rollers, this ensemble rocks 18-inch machined aluminum wheels with Dark Grey metallic accents (RPO code PXD).
At the rear, the chrome theme continues with a chrome rear bumper and chromed-out GMC, Sierra and SLT badges. Additionally, a GMC MultiPro tailgate is present and accounted for.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first 2024 Sierra HD decked out in the SLT trim that GM Authority has seen. We spotted a Cardinal Red unit (paint code G7C) back in October 2022, but that example featured a non-production front grille. While the grille pattern was the same as the one we see here, the placeholder grille was finished in black rather than chrome.
As a reminder, the GMC Sierra HD mid-cycle refresh was originally slated for the 2023 model year, but due to complications stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic and global microchip shortage, the revision was pushed back a year. Regardless, the refresh brings about enhancements to the front fascia, an overhauled cockpit, and a streamlined powertrain.
Under the hood, most of the trim levels of the 2024 Sierra HD are fitted with the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine as standard, rated at 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. Optional on most trims and standard on the Denali Ultimate is the aforementioned 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine, which is now uprated at 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque.
Regardless of engine choice, every truck is equipped with the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission as standard.
The 2024 GMC Sierra HD is set to arrive in the spring of the 2023 calendar year, with official pricing details expected closer to the start of production.

Don’t like those vertical black stripes on the front bumper. Otherwise. looks good.
They need a place to put a radar.
I guess, but it is too much contrast.
Looks better on the versions with body color bumpers and a dark color.
Yep, that Fog Light Housing Unit design could have been better off not being so dark.
I agree, those Plastic Stripes are somewhat of an eyesore.
Nice looking. Like to see the ‘Pro’ version now.
Same here, but I’m not quite digging the look of those optional wheels for an SLT HD Truck, their better off remaining as an option for the SLE 1500.
That is a lot of lipstick on the same face…
The grill interface where the grill meets the headlights looks like they ran out of ideas. This is a bad plastic surgery make over of the previous botch. The mutt-faced Silverado HD isn’t any better. This era of HD is more like an error, especially with the awful dashboard they introduced. Why would you by a 23 with the rotten dashboard when the 24 interior is finally up to date. If they could only figure out the exterior. Hopefully the next gen will be more harmonious like the new Colorado/Canyon.
Mmmmm, this is the 24. SLT version. Not going to see all the ding dongs on an SLT. And by harmonize with the matchbox pickups, you’re referring to how Ford took the 2023 Super Duty more in line with the Maverick? Ford shot their own toe off with the 23 Super Duty refresh. Even the Platinum looks like crap. GMC’s refresh of the 24 combined with the new dash tech is leaps and bounds ahead of Ford or Ram… and I’m a Ford owner in the market for a new 1 ton. It definitely will not be a Ford.
Well, not everyone is blessed with good taste I guess. The Super Duty is a better looking truck and I am no fan of Ford, I don’t buy their products. The only thing they refreshed on this truck is the grill and the dash, which was long overdue. The front end is rushed, wheel arches are hideous and the curved body lines are boring.
I know this is the ’24, which begs the question why anyone would by a ’23 with the lousy interior. This truck doesn’t come out until April or May.
The outer edges of the grille could have been raised up further to come flush with the bottom of the hood, that little detailed improvement could have made the appearance a little better.
