The GMC Sierra HD lineup receives a mid-cycle refresh for the 2024 model year, bring all types of upgrades and enhancements to the heavy duty pickup. Thus far, GM Authority has brought you several real-world photo galleries of the SLE, SLT, Denali and Denali Ultimate. Today, GM Authority’s expert photographers have exclusively captured our first photos of the refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD in the Pro trim.
For reference, the Pro is positioned at the bottom of the trim totem pole as the base model. This particular example – a 2500 HD Crew Cab with a Standard Bed and 4X4 – is finished in the Onyx Black color (paint code GBA). Notably, this example is equipped with the X31 Off-Road Package, which includes a few all-terrain goodies (relevant RPO code in parentheses):
- Hill Descent Control (JHD)
- Skid plates (NZZ)
- Off-road suspension
- Twin-tube Rancho shocks
- X31 hard badge
Additionally, this package requires opting for 4WD and All Terrain tires.
Up front, we notice the trim-specific front fascia, which includes a chrome front bumper and grille surround. Notably, the grille itself – which houses the red GMC badge – is devoid of the chrome inserts found on higher trim levels like the SLE and SLT. Up top, we see the body-color hood scoop, along with the revised headlights at the sides, and a marked absence of the integrated fog lights. The Duramax hard badge on the front quarter panel indicates that this truck is equipped with the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel engine. Also note the black recovery (tow) hooks within the lower front fascia.
Moving to the side of this Sierra HD Pro, we see black plastic side mirrors and door handles, which blend well with the Onyx Black paint job. New-for-2024 is the 2500 HD designation positioned on the top corner of the front bumper, while the front doors feature the Sierra HD badging. An X31 hard badge is prominently featured on the rear of the bedside.
In the case of the rollers, this heavy duty pickup sports 18-inch eight-spoke painted steel silver wheels (PYT), which serve as the base wheels for the Sierra HD.
Out back, the Big Red logo is prominently displayed front-and-center of the tailgate, along with a chrome rear bumper, providing a contrast to the Onyx Black paint.
As a reminder, the mid-cycle refresh for the GMC Sierra HD was originally intended for the 2023 model year, but due to complications stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic and global microchip shortage, the revision was pushed back to the 2024 model year.
Under the hood, a majority of trim levels of the 2024 Sierra HD are fitted with the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine as standard, rated at 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. Optional on most trims, but standard on the Denali Ultimate, is the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine, which is now uprated at 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque.
No matter engine option, every heavy duty truck is equipped with the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission as standard.
The 2024 GMC Sierra HD is set to arrive in the spring of the 2023 calendar year, with official pricing details expected closer to the start of production.

Looks pretty clean and solid.
I wonder if that Allison branded trans is really the same or a hardware counterpart of the 10R100 that Ford is using w the 6.8 V8.
It’s GM’s version of the same transmission in the super duty; which is a great trans. People will try to tell you otherwise but the “General” doesn’t spend money it doesn’t have to.
The ‘Allison’ 10R1000 is used with both the L8T and Duramax. It is quite a bit different than the 10R140 used in the 7.3L and Powestroke Super Duty. The 6.8L Super Duty gets the light duty 10 speed shared between GM and Ford.
Is the interior of the Pro the same as the SLE?
From what I understand, the GMC Pro, Silverado WT and Custom will all use the old interior, as they have in the 1500 models.
So spring of 23 to begin production but yet no pricing? I am looking at the new AT4 HD truck. Id hate to know the pricing structure!
