Slated to launch early next year, the all-new 2023 GMC Canyon is set to introduce a third generation of the midsize pickup, bring a bevy of exterior, interior and powertrain upgrades. Today, we’re taking a look at the 2023 Canyon outfitted in the AT4 trim level and rocking a unique set of wheels in following GM Authority Live Photo Gallery.
As an AT4 model, this particular example is positioned as a premium off-road-ready pickup truck, slotting between the base Elevation and luxurious Denali trims. Building off the standard off-road suspension package, the AT4 receives a select number of all-terrain bits, headlined by an Off-Road suspension with a two-inch factory lift and an ultra wide stance.
Up front, this 2023 Canyon AT4 features the trim-specific faux skid plate, red-painted tow hooks and an AT4 hard badge nestled on the lower portion of the driver’s side front grille. A red GMC logo is prominently displayed front-and-center.
Moving around to the side, we see body-colored door handles, black painted mirror caps, and another AT4 hard badge on the lower end of the front door. There’s also a set of unique wheels. These rollers appear to be a black version of the 18-inch Dark Grey Machined Finish Aluminum wheels (RPO code RQL), which are standard affair on the AT4X. As of the time of this writing, the RQL wheels are not a part of the 2023 Canyon wheel lineup, but could show up later as an option.
Out back, we spot a body color-matched CornerStep bumper, one more AT4 hard badge on the lower right of the tailgate and a single exhaust pipe behind the passenger’s side rear tire.
This 2023 Canyon AT4 is adorned in Volcanic Red Tintcoat paint (color code GNT), a $645 color option that’s available with all four Canyon interior colorways:
- Jet Black
- Obsidian Rush
- Jet Black / Teak
- Jet Black / Timber
However, the AT4 trim level is only available with the Jet Black / Timber colorway, in either Cloth seats with CoreTec seat trim or perforated leather appointed seats. Additionally, Volcanic Red Tinctcoat is available across all 2023 Canyon trims.
The total number of exterior hues for the upcoming 2023 Canyon to eight (relevant paint code listed in parentheses):
- Deep Bronze Metallic (GXN)
- Desert Sand Metallic (GTL)
- Dynamic Blue Metallic (GLT)
- Onyx Black (GBA)
- Solar Flare Metallic (GCP)
- Sterling Metallic (GXD)
- Summit White (GAZ)
- Volcanic Red Tintcoat (GNT)
Of these, only Summit White is available for no extra charge.
As a reminder, all 2023 Canyon models are equipped with the range-topping High-Output tune of the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the only transmission on offer is the revised GM eight-speed automatic transmission.
Under the skin, the all-new Canyon rides on the updated version of the GM GMT 31XX platform, known internally as the 31XX-2. Production will kick-off on January 25th, 2023 at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

One sharp looking pickup!. I believe the AT4 will be a big seller for the Canyon ! It has the looks , a fantastic interior, its lifted and wide track , plus it has , like all GMC Canyons the top power train !!, its a pretty compelling package !!
yay, fake skid plates!!
Those black wheels just convinced me not to get the red truck. What ever happened to shiny wheels? There are a lot of us potential buyers that just do not like the blackout look!
They’re not standard.. it’s an option! You can put any wheel on this truck.
Hate the plastic fender liners!!
Paint matched wheel well flares and a set of good looking aluminum wheels would polish it off. Good looking truck!
My thoughts exactly. In these photos the truck looks nice, but could be great with a few tweaks. I almost never leave any of my vehicles alone.
I really want this truck, BUT I’m also really worried about reliability, I’m coming from two rock solid Toyota’s 10 years ZERO issues, I just have this sinking feeling as soon as I drive off the lot, here come weird issues with my stereo, back-up camera and other stupid things that constantly happen with GM. All of my neighbors have GM trucks, ALL of them have these issues new and old trucks. Just don’t get it…
I ordered my 23 AT4 Canyon and just got notice it’s in production, and in the Red Tincoat! In the specs it appears to suit my needs, and is the best mid-size for a tall driver (got that at 6’8). But seriously, 45.2” of legroom and 40.1 of headroom is pretty awesome for a midsize, my 2015 Yukon has 45.3/42.8. It seems on paper to be a major upgrade from the current generation, and 310hp from the I4 Turbo is downright snarly. I’ll check back in after delivery and some miles through the Colorado Rockies. Now what I’m a bit surprised about, considering how nice the new interior upgrades are, is the lack of a sunglasses holder in the overhead console, and no Homelink. Obviously not a deal breaker, but really even a Cruze has those items for $20k less…
