The 2023 Corvette Z06 is a monster any way you slice it, but now we’re watching as the new go-faster Vette lines up alongside the straight-line specialist Dodge Challenger SRT Demon for a drag race.
Despite a significantly smaller price tag and aging platform, the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is not to be trifled with. Offered as the ultimate iteration of Dodge’s modern Challenger, the Demon posts some very impressive numbers, with its supercharged 6.2L V8 engine rated at a stout 808 horsepower and 717 pound-feet of torque. Splash some 100-octane racing fuel into the tank (as is the case with this particular example featured here), and output jumps to 840 horsepower. Factor in a full suite of drag racing tech features and settings, and this thing can run mid-9’s in the quarter mile.
Of course, the 2023 Corvette Z06 is no slouch either, boasting the naturally aspirated 5.5L V8 LT6 gasoline engine just behind the cabin. Output is rated at 670 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, which is obviously well under the Demon’s outrageous supercharged specs. That said, the Corvette Z06 has a few advantages of its own, with weight being one of the biggest, tipping the scales at about 3,500 pounds – downright feathery compared to the Demon’s pavement crushing 4,280 pounds.
Add in a serious traction advantage courtesy of the mid-mounted layout and un-prepped surface, not to mention a possible driver skill gap behind the wheel of the Demon, and well, all that power in the Dodge might not be worth much in this matchup.
Clocking in at just under 9 minutes, the video includes two rounds of racing action, with a race from a dig and a race from a roll to demonstrate the wild performance on tap here. Hit play to see it all go down for yourself:

Why all the drag race deals on the Z06?
Get us lap times! You don’t slice Bread with a hammer?
Why even bother in the 3-4 years till I can even have one, I’ll have moved on something obtainable. Shame on GM and all who allow the BS to continue and you feed right into GM’s hand.
No surprise. I was street racing my 68 Charger RT 440 magnum in 1971 and it always won from a 32 mph roll. That’s the slowest I could get the Torqueflite down into first gear. Great fun for a teenager. My current C8 is just an adult cruiser.
They didn’t mention that to get the full 840 hp you have to change the ECU, turn a key in the dash (and push the button they mentioned) and put in the racing fuel.
I wasn’t aware that you could get lead free 100 octane. Does that mean the Dodge isn’t running Cats. I thought lead would plug them up.
Dude there’s no gas was laid in there anymore that’s what unleaded means
I am no stranger to seeing Dodge getting beat by Chevrolet and this race is no different. Dead Or Dying Gone Eventually
Idiots! What a blast!! 2 fantastic cars and 2 very lucky nut cases!
A GM small block guy for past many years.
Which car would I take for my only high performance monster ?
Sorry Chevrolet
All that horsepower and torque in the Dodge is a waste due to traction limitations from the rear tires and is handicapped by being front-engined and RWD only on a aging platform. I was not surprised that the ZO6 was going to perform better with lighter weight with most traction on the rear wheels due to being mid-engined. Imagine how fast the ZR1 C8 could look like going in the straight line?
