The 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 is now available to order with the Brembo Performance Front Brake kit, an option that hasn’t been offered on the light-duty pickup since the 2019 model year.
The Performance Front Brake Kit (RPO code 5JL) is now offered as an LPO or dealer-installed option. This Brembo front brake kit includes:
- Red Brembo six-piston front brake calipers with CHEVROLET logo
- Larger than factory stock front pads and rotors
- Red rear calipers
As of the time of this writing, there is no pricing information available. This brake kit is offered on Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ and High Country trim levels. Unfortunately, Work Truck (WT) and ZR2 trims do not get the Brembo option.
It’s worth noting that the 5JL package requires the optioning of 20-inch wheels on the Custom, Custom Trail Boss and LT Trail Boss trim levels, and 20- or 22-inch wheels on LT, RST, LTZ, and High Country trims.
As a reminder, the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 is available with a plethora of powerplant options. The base engine is the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, producing 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. This is followed by the atmospheric 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, and the atmospheric 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, which delivers 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. New for 2023 is the “second iteration” of GM’s 3.0L Duramax, the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel, which replaces the previous 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel. The new diesel churns out 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.
In regards to transmission options, the L3B engine is mated to the GM eight-speed automatic, while the L84, the L87 and the LZ0 powerplants are offered with the GM 10-speed automatic.
As for structure, the 2023 Silverado rides in the GM T1 platform, which it shares with its corporate platform-mate, the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. Production of the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 takes place at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, the GM Silao plant in Mexico, and the GM Oshawa plant in Canada.

i work in a dealer and let me me tell you brembo performance ” breaks” on these trucks!!!
On the GM truck forums, I have also heard many customers complain about issues with the Brembo package. I honestly never had issues with braking on standard brakes. I only tow around 4k pounds with my boat, but better “cautious” / more aware driving always helps!!
I have these on my Sierra Denali and they stop on a dime well worth the price. The pads do squeal slightly when applying brakes in reverse while backing up.
I’ve never needed anything beyond stock brakes. Probably like many others on here, been towing everything from landscape to enclosed car trailers for over 45 years and never had issues with any of the factory brakes.
