The 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 represents the fifth model year for the fourth generation of Chevy’s full-size pickup truck. Introducing just a few changes over the refreshed 2022 model, GM Authority has learned that the 2023 Silverado 1500 will have one less paint color to choose from.
Sand Dune Metallic (color code GTL) will no longer be available to order for the remainder of the 2023 model year. Previously a no-charge hue for Custom Trail boss, LT Trailboss and ZR2 trim levels, it’s currently unknown if this shade will return for the 2024 model year.
With the removal of Sand Dune Metallic from the color option list, the 2023 Silverado 1500 is now available with 11 different exterior hues:
- Black
- Iridescent Pearl Tricoat
- Northsky Blue Metallic
- Red Hot
- Summit White
- Dark Ash Metallic
- Glacier Blue Metallic
- Sand Dune Metallic
- Harvest Bronze Metallic (new for 2023)
- Radiant Red Tintcoat (new for 2023)
- Sterling Gray Metallic (new for 2023)
It’s worth noting that Sand Dune Metallic was never offered on Work Truck (WT), LT, RST, LTZ or High Country trim levels.
As a reminder, the biggest update for the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 was the introduction of the all-new 3.0L LZ0 I6 turbodiesel Duramax engine. Considered the “second iteration” of GM’s Duramax 3.0L straight-six, this diesel churns out 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.
Other engine options include the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, producing 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, the atmospheric 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, and the atmospheric 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, which delivers 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
As for transmission choices, the L3B is matched to the GM eight-speed automatic, while the L84, the L87 and the LZ0 are offered with the GM 10-speed automatic.
Under the skin, the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 rides in the GM T1 platform, while production takes place at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, the GM Silao plant in Mexico, and the GM Oshawa plant in Canada.

And The Beat Goes On (Not Available…Not Deliverable…Not Discounted)!…Sing It Cher!!!
Makes no sense. So folks are tired of black, white, and gray. Northsky Blue is the one that needs go. Worst shade of blue ever. Rapid Blue and Amplify Orange would be great.
I agree. I think that is the only color dealers near me have. I can’t stand it!
Bring back silver!!!!! A Silverado gotta be silver!!!!
One of the best original colors GM ever came with, sorry to see it go.
won’t miss it. Talk about a boring color.
While it may be boring for you, there are a lot of customers that like it… It’s not for everybody!
It was the one unique color GM had. What do you expect from a company where everybody in leadership wears blue s standard blue suit with white shirts
So do a lot of politicians….What’s your point?
