The 2023 Chevy Malibu adds three new exterior colors to its palette: Riverside Blue Metallic, Sterling Gray Metallic, and Radiant Red Tintcoat. Here’s our first look at the new Red hue.
Assigned RPO code GNT and touch-up paint code WA-170H, Radiant Red Tintcoat is one of seven exterior colors offered on the midsize sedan, which include:
- Dark Ash Metallic
- Mineral Gray Metallic
- Mosaic Black Metallic
- Summit White
- Radiant Red Tintcoat (new for 2023)
- Riverside Blue Metallic (new for 2023)
- Sterling Gray Metallic (new for 2023)
The Radiant Red Tintcoat color adds an additional $495 to the sedan’s price. It is available on all trim levels except for the base LS. In addition, the new color can be combined with all Malibu interior colorways.
For reference, here are all three available interior colorways offered on the 2023 Malibu:
- Dark Atmosphere/Medium Ash Gray (LS/1LT only)
- Jet Black (all trims)
- Dark Atmosphere/Light Wheat (2LT only)
The 2023 Chevy Malibu ushers in a variety of important changes and updates compared to the preceding 2022 model year. The midsize sedan will no longer offer the Premier trim level nor its turbocharged 2.0L I4 LTG gasoline engine that powered it, along with the GM nine-speed automatic transmission. Going forward, the 2023 Malibu is available exclusively with the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LFV gasoline engine, which mates to the MRG continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). This combination was previously offered for all 2022 model-year Chevy Malibu trim levels, with the exception of the Premier. Output is rated at 163 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque.
For the 2023 model year, Chevy has repackaged the Premier trim as a new 2LT trim level on the Malibu. As a result, the 2023 Malibu’s top trim now costs $2,000 less than that of the 2022 model. Additionally, two of the Malibu’s dealer-installed convenience packages are no longer available to order.
Production of the 2023 Chevy Malibu kicked off at the GM Fairfax plant in Kansas City on September 7th, 2022. The online configurator tool is now live for the 2023 Malibu.

Such a nice looking sedan especially compared to Camry, Altima, Sonoma. Driving dynamics are solid, too, and zero road noise unlike Fusion.
Never understood the weak sales. Last 3 generations since 2008 have been excellent cars based on Opel Insignia yet totally ignored by consumers and auto press
Four years ago I was looking to replace my ‘09 HHR SS. Test drove the Premier 2.0, if they had an SS version with a stick I would have bought it. Instead I got a Civic Si. The Malibu with the 1.5 is badly underpowered.
Steveinvictainsignia: I agree, but I should since that looks exactly like my 2021. It truly is a fantastic car.
Freddy: After one year and 10K, I just can’t agree with you when you say it’s “badly underpowered”. So far, there has been zero times where I feel my car could use more power. It’s very quiet, rides great, handles great and I can absolutely not complain about the MPG. On Christmas eve I drove 78 miles each direction for an Xmas gathering. The traffic was heavy, but moving quite fast as is the norm in the LA area. Where I was going was climbing to the high dessert and I never felt under powered. Never have I had an issue with merging. The icing on the cake is that I averaged 42.5 MPG round trip. This is an excellent car.
